Dogbert is one of the main protagonists of Scott Adam's comic strip Dilbert. Dogbert is the pet dog of the titular character, Dilbert. He is portrayed as one of if not the most intelligent being in his universe and certainly the wisest, observing and predicting behavior of all other characters with laser precession, by assuming the worst in people. Though Dogbert enjoys tormenting his "owner" daily with mean pranks or just out witting him, one of the only things the otherwise amoral canine cares about is Dilbert. While Dogbert will usually leave his owner to get into whatever messes he can on occasion Dogbert will provide a devious/simplistic scheme to solve an otherwise impossible problem.

For example, Dogbert has saved Dilbert from Mr. Tidy, the robber-disguised-as-a-cleaning-man; prevented Dilbert from being executed by Catbert; and rescued Dilbert from the trolls in accounting several times. Despite his claims to the contrary, Dogbert sometimes shows that he's fond of Dilbert. For example, in one strip, Dilbert commented to Dogbert that his phone was his best friend; Dogbert immediately blew up the phone out of jealousy. In Elbonian Trip, Dogbert became the U.S. ambassador to Elbonia, partly to loot the small country, but partly to help Dilbert survive his trip.
