Herbalists combine the healing strength of the Medic with the ailment-inducing prowess of the Hexer, using their knowledge of herbs to both heal and harm. Herbalists are typically only able to wear clothing and wield staves, but can also wield bows and scythes.
  • This octogenarian devoted forty years of her life to making herbal medicines for wounded Earth Kingdom troops at an abandoned medical institution. For a time, she was the only person living in and taking care of the institute, as all her students left the area to support the war effort. Her only companion was Miyuki, her beloved cat. Zuko, Iroh, and June also encountered the herbalist when they were tracking the Avatar with June's shirshu by means of Katara's necklace.
  • Medicine in the Old World is primitive, unreliable, and expensive, so many people rely on traditional cures and medicines handed down through the centuries. In fact, many people distrust 'scientific' medicine. Herbalists, on the other hand, are respected members of society, although their clientele is not generally so exclusive as that of the Physicians. They gather and trade in herbs and prepare herbal remedies for all manner of ills. In rare and severe cases, they will treat the patient personally. Some do misuse their powers, as those who have been the subject of love or charm philtres know only too well, but the profession is steeped in the folklore of the Old World and most of the common people feel the Herbalist is their only friend when they fall ill.
