| - —Nozomi Nozomi (望, Nozomi?, lit. "Hope") is a ghost who goes on a date with Moroboshi Ataru to pass on. She was a young girl who had serious sickness during childhood. Due to her illness, her life-span costs a lot, causing her to pass away in a young age. Despite this, she has some wishes that have not fulfilled yet, leading her soul to wander the human world. With the help of the Diary of Dream that Nozomi wrote when she was still alive, Sakura calls Ataru to come and have a date with her.
- Nozomi was an intelligent nezumi. She and two other pups were orphaned while they were on some abandoned farmland. A magistrate who was seeking Scorpion ronin stumbled upon the three infants. The magistrate attacked them with his yari, seeing them only as vermin. He was beheaded by his own yoriki, a ronin member of the Sword of Yotsu who cared for the helpless. The ronin took her and escaped. A bounty was placed over the head of the ronin, who named her Nozomi, and she in turn called him A'op'chtch-tchr, "father's stick".
- Nozomi (望み ) was the Head Miko (also known as the Abyss Watcher) of a secret group within The Shadow Organization known as Serpent's Eye. Her duty was to make predictions concerning the fate of the organization, a task of such importance that she was forbidden to leave the safety of her group's base. After entrusting Saki with a warning to be carried to all guardians of the remaining Shinyuuchi, Nozomi took her own life.
- Nozomi Harasaki is a childhood friend of Ryo Hazuki and runs a flower shop in Dobuita, Japan. In the winter of 1986, Ryo stayed in the company of Nozomi until darkness fell, eventually realising he should return home. Memories of subsequent events, including the death of his father, reveal that Ryo partly blames himself for staying too long with Nozomi, in turn leaving his father vulnerable. Nozomi was briefly seen towards the end of the first Shenmue story, either lost in thought or distracted by something. Currently, she has not appeared in any further stories.
- Born to unknown members of the Tenrai Clan, she was have said to been found abandoned at the front gates of Takigakure as a child. She later took to foraging and begging on the streets to get by, until she was adopted by Hon, a local bookkeeper who ran a business in the village of Taki. Naming her Nozomi (Desire), he taught her how to read and write as well as run the bookkeeping business. When she voiced her desire to join the ninja academy at Taki, he first said no, but ultimately let her go. She quickly grew to specialize in the arts of ninjutsu, particularly the use of the elements yin and yang, as well as the wind release and taijutsu. However, she was constantly bullied in the academy for being a so called "Tenrai" though at the time she had no idea what the meant. When she asked Hon
- Nozomi is a friend of Yuka's, who met her in high school where Yuka served as Senpai to the nervous Nozomi's Kohai. While possessing a beautiful singing voice, her family, most especially her father, forbid her from using it to pursue a career. Her father's efforts even reach abusive extremes. Both Nozomi and her mother possess the Dramatic Soprano (called "Soprano Dramatico" in-series) voice type, which is said to be uncommon for Japanese people. Nozomi's mother committed suicide after her voice was ruined, presumably by her oversinging and putting constant stress on her vocal chords. Nozomi's father sought to stop her interest in opera, thus keeping her from suffering the same fate as her mother, through this abuse, which was often physical in the form of severe spanking.
