  • The gypsies are major villains in Three Lives of Thomasina.
  • Gypsies, more accurately called "Roma" or "Romani" (they really don't care for the word "gypsy"), are true nomads who used to ply throughout Europe on caravans but today, most are settled. In Europe, as in the past, the Conservatives hate them, they are discriminated against.
  • The Gypsies are a group in the RK, led by Fae. The gypsies made their first appearance during Rayn's term as duchess of Munster, Ireland. This event was commonly known as "Hell Week."
  • The gypsies have a wagon, which houses the fortune teller Madame Mushka. Her husband Vladic guards the wagon while playing the violin.
  • Surprisingly J.R.R. Tolkien's gnomish wordlists do in fact have a term for gipsy, "amrog-dorn", glossed as "brown Wanderer".It has been a matter of debate if this can be interpreted in a way in which there were precursors or even ancestors of the later gypsies known in Northwestern Middle-Earth or if in this context gipsy just refers to the tanned look of wanderers in the wild, not referring to any particular culture. Tolkien's own motivation when he invented the term was to be able to translate the english placename Gypsy Green a place in Staffordshire, into his elven languages.
  • Gyspies are dark, dangerous, magical peoples who would as soon kill you as look at you. With their abilities to tell fortunes, grant wishes, control minds, manipulate weaker souls, kidnap children, and hide in plain sight, Gypsies are sort of like a mash-up of leprechauns, Jews, and Big Feet. Because they are (probably) humans, Gypsies seem to resemble the Jews most in this tripartite mixture - especially in ability to strip a man of his last dollar, and to claim persecution in such non-existent historical events as "Nazi genocide." Unlike the Jews, however, all Gypsies are very good dancers.
  • The Gypsy family were the ancestors of Madame Why. Her wagon was already in the family in the year 49 B.C. When their family fortune teller, Tanya saw in the cards that they would be treated like kings in Rome, they all decided to move there. When Madame Why and the Ghostbusters travelled back in time to make sure the Gold Wreath was not stolen by Prime Evil's ghosts, two of the male gypsies simply laughed at Madame's story.
  • Many gypsies, particularly females, possess mystical or oracular abilities, and the iconic Character Creation process in Ultima IV is facilitated by an unnamed gypsy woman. Other gypsy mystics throughout the series include Inoo, Malifora, Taynith, Penumbra, Margareta and Morganna. Tarot cards and crystal balls are traditionally used by gypsies as tools of divination, although some charlatans, such as Arturos and Irina, use the promise of fortune-telling to fleece curiosity seekers of a quick coin.
  • Gypsy is a term commonly used to refer to an ethnic group of individuals who migrated to Europe from northern India around the 14th century. Speaking several dialects of the Romani language, gypsies have fallen prey to several stereotypes exploited in the media and Western pop culture. These traits have included the idea that gypsies are a magical people, possessing supernatural powers and the use of conventional trickery to achieve a favorable outcome concerning social and economic dealings. They are often depicted as travelers who prefer a nomadic way of life outside the boundaries of society, who sometimes leave the confines of their camp to integrate with local people, offering services such as fortune-telling.

  • Many gypsies, particularly females, possess mystical or oracular abilities, and the iconic Character Creation process in Ultima IV is facilitated by an unnamed gypsy woman. Tarot cards and crystal balls are traditionally used by gypsies as tools of divination, although some charlatans, such as Arturos and Irina, use the promise of fortune-telling to fleece curiosity seekers of a quick coin. From Ultima VI onward, gypsies were shown as being under the loose leadership of various "kings" of the gypsy people, although the existence of a hierarchy that transcends more than one traveling group is never delved into. At one point, there were even two self-declared "kings" of the gypsies (Zoltan and Arturos) with little to imply that there was any consensus as to who was in charge. In Ultima IX, the title of leadership seemingly changes to Rom Baro. Gypsies are often depicted as facing persecution and repression from the greater populace of Britannia, particularly from the Fellowship. Jergi, the reluctant king of the gypsies in Ultima VII states that such persecutions have been deep-rooted since the time of ancient Sosaria and that his people are beginning to die out from the world as a result. Although some gypsies, such as Arturos and his crew, have vices which reflect the prejudices of a world that brands their entire people as criminal, most gypsies encountered by the Avatar were good and virtuous people, and many of them proved instrumental in the hero's quest.

Unlike the Jews, however, all Gypsies are very good dancers. Gypsies can be found all over the world in places where they haven't been killed off, forcibly moved, or forbidden to settle. While they prefer their "own" name ("Rom" or "Roma") to the term "Gypsy," they will answer to any name that is accompanied with the jingle of coins or the crinkle of good ol' American money. __TOC__

One such character was featured as a major player in the plot of The Muppet Show episode 416. A gypsy woman (played by Jerry Nelson) appears in the theatre who was paid by Statler and Waldorf to place a $7 half-hour curse on the show. She later appeared as a fortune teller in episode 511. Previously, Peter Sellers played Boris, a gypsy violinist, in episode 219, surrounded by gypsy Whatnots.
