Barbarians are usually fought by lower-levelled players for relatively easy experience. Although they hit low, they are somewhat accurate. It should be noted that the barbarians can have different weapons, most of which are non-existent for players, and they vary in accuracy against certain armour types. If a player is like most melee fighters, attacking a Barbarian while wearing plate armour, they should avoid the barbarians wielding hammers and try to only fight the ones with spears and swords.
