  • Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode Metal ist eine weitere Episode von Sonic the Hedgehog 4, welche kostenlos zur Verfügung gestellt wird, wenn man Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode 1 und Episode 2 gekauft und es auf dem gleichen Gerät (dem IPad, dem IPhone oder IPod) heruntergeladen hatte, wobei es auf der Weltkarte von Episode II als Erweiterung erscheint. Die zusätzliche Folge verbindet die Ereignisse von Sonic CD mit denen aus Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode 2 und beginnt mit einem Intro, in dem Metal Sonic von Dr. Eggman reanimiert wird. Hauptcharakter ist dabei der Roboter Metal Sonic, worin auch erklärt wird, wie die Ereignisse von dem Roboter auf Episode 2 sich auswirken.

Po tym jak gracz ukończy pierwszy akt Sylvania Castle Zone z epizodu drugiego, gra sprawdzi pliki zapisu z epizodu pierwszego. Do aktywacji epizodu Metal potrzebne będzie co najmniej ukończenie pierwszego aktu Splash Hill Zone. Przy następnej rozgrywce wyświetlony zostanie komunikat i gracz zostanie przeniesiony do alternatywnej mapy świata z poziomami epizodu Metal.
