Alf był wówczas ubrany w "ciemnozielony płaszcz z kapturem, który częściowo zasłaniał jego twarz". Dowiadujemy się także, że był mężczyzną wysokim i nie utracił swojej młodzieńczej zwinności. Rozmówił się wtedy z Gwiezdnikiem na temat zwrócenia przez niego magicznej Gwiazdy. As is typical of the Alien Among Us plot, Alf has to deal with the particular protocols of living on earth. In a subversion, however, he is not depicted as particularly advanced or powerful. He's a little freaky teddy-bear monster, who is lazy, gluttonous, and tries to eat the family cat (cats were his home world's equivalent to chickens). He hides out in the attic, and makes no attempts to ever leave the house, perfectly content to freeload off the family patriarch, Willie, and tease the Nosy Neighbor Raquel Ochmonek. The show unexpectedly ended on a season cliff hanger, with Alf being taken off to an undisclosed location by government agents. A later Made for TV Movie would reveal the result and provide closure for the series. Despite being relatively formulaic, the show was original in many regards, and had a loyal following. While viewers saw a delightful, lighthearted sitcom, the show is noted for having been very grueling for the cast, and a hotbed of tension and discomfort when the cameras were off. The technical demands of the ALF puppet required a myriad of trapdoors on set, which had to be reset many times during even a single scene. This led to the show being shot in a very halting, piecemeal fashion, with a single 30-minute episode sometimes taking 20-25 hours of studio time to complete. The effects on the cast were devastating; for example, Andrea Elson (Lynn) suffered from depression and bulimia during the series, while Max Wright (Willie), both physically exhausted and resentful of playing straight man to a puppet, reportedly left the studio immediately after the final shot of the series finale, without even saying goodbye to fellow cast members. An Animated Adaptation was broadcast from September, 1987 to January, 1989. It depicted Gordon's life on Melmac before he came to earth. It introduced Gordon's family members and friends , such as little sister Augie and girlfriend Rhonda (both voiced by Paulina Gillis). A villain threatening Melmac was also introduced to add some tension. He was called Larson Petty (a pun on petty larceny). The show had its own Spin-Off, ALF Tales, which had the characters as Animated Actors performing modernized versions of classic stories. There was also a comic book adaptation which tended to play down the sitcom aspects in favor of giving him strange technological toys; it seemed more inspired by the Animated Adaptation than the original sitcom and would in fact often include stories set on Melmac, usually with the framing story of Alf telling the Tanners of life on his home planet. (Willie and Kate, for some unnexplained reason, found these flashbacks incredibly tedious. Lynn was fairly indifferent to them, and Brian loved them.) Alf was voiced and performed by Fusco. Recently, the character has been resurrected in various capacities; in 2004, a late-night talk show format (called "ALF's Hit Talk Show"; it only lasted seven episodes) and in commercials during the late-1990s, most notably one for the long-distance service "10-10-220".

- 'ALF' first aired in the States from the fall of 1986, quickly followed in the UK from April 1987. Concerning the arrival on Earth, or more accurately the suburban garage roof of the Tanner family, of a short hairy alien called Gordon Schumway, 'ALF' (which stood for 'Alien Life Form') was one of the hit comedies of its time, running to four seasons. 'ALF' himself appeared like a muppet, operated and voiced by his creator and co-producer Paul Fusco (assisted by puppeteers Lisa Buckley and Bob Fappiano), although all publicity at the time insisted the character was a REAL alien, so all interviews were done as 'himself'. At times when ALF needed to be seen walking or running in the show, a full body suit was worn by dwarf actor Michu Meszaros. The Tanner family consisted of father Willie (Max Wright), whose amateur radio ham signal ALF had followed to Earth, wife Kate (Anne Schedeen), teen daughter Lynn (Andrea Elson) and young son Brian (Benji Gregory). Rounding out the household was cat Lucky, who ALF often had an eye on to making into lunch, or dinner, or breakfast, or just any convenient meal. The Tanners had neighbours in the Ochmoneks, Trevor (John LaMotta) and nosy Raquel (Liz Sheridan), suspicious at something hidden by the family but never having proof. One suspects that the likenesses of the Ochmoneks - frequently name-checked in the strip but never seen - were not available, as one story has the similar (but rights skirting) Mrs Bronski playing the part of nosy neighbour instead. By the time the strip version of 'ALF' appeared in 'Look-In', the series had nearly concluded its second season in the US, and had been on British TV for a year. A poll published in 'Look-In' as the strip started marked 'ALF' as the favourite TV star, over Michael J. Fox and Cannon & Ball, so it has to be considered the series was possibly headhunted, which might explain its surprising brevity if heavy costs were involved in obtaining the rights. Unusually, despite being a very short run of 13 self-contained instalments, it was split in two, with British alien 'Gilbert' from kids’ show 'Get Fresh' filling the gap between issues 16 and 30. Also unusual for a comedy strip, 'ALF' was colour, with pop sensation '5 Star' and Saturday morning show '73' (or '7T3' as it became) having the prime strip places, with even the long running 'The A-Team' relegated to black and white by now. As main writer Angus Allan had now withdrawn from 'Look-In', the scriptwriter remains unknown but artist Harry North drew 'ALF' in a less detailed and more sketchy way from his previous strips, in what would appear to be his last major work for the title. Although there is no explanation given as to how he learned these languages, it is evident that elements of Earth culture have infused themselves into Melmacian culture (perhaps through observation or monitoring of television and radio broadcasts), in that ALF was once in a dinner theatre production of Man of La Mancha on Melmac. ALF is an avid musician who sings and plays saxophone, guitar, bass guitar, drums, and piano (although he finds it hard to play without the "red" keys). ALF is troublesome, sarcastic and cynical, and sometimes he puts himself at the risk of being discovered while doing some of his often unintentional pranks. ALF is known to have set 246 fires with the Tanner family, but most were barbeque related. Before he met Rhonda, his girlfriend, he was engaged to Ruby.
