After that, the player may chat with the librarian, who will bless the player, and offer a quest. The quest is to deliver the weird tome to the Mad Minstrel. Upon receipt, he awards the player with some extra scrolls taking up space on his bookshelf — five cursed scrolls of chaos resistance. If chatting with the librarian fails, the player can try again — the turn counter is reset, but the quest is still available. Accepting the quest gives a bonus to literacy .
The player should be careful to ensure the Ghost Librarian's safety. Since the Librarian is non-hostile, the monsters that guard the stacks might potentially attack him. It's a good idea to use a wand of door creation to seal off the library's lobby. Even then, monsters that teleport or smash doors might potentially get in and kill him.
