New Year's Execution featured three main event-level matches, a World Heavyweight Championship match between champion The Outsider and challenger Masked Avenger, and 2 first round matches in the EWE Championship Tournament between Super Nova and Shawn Stasiak, and Robert Cortage and Steven Hooke. The title was vacated by Joe Heart after winning it at Heroes of Wrestling and then vacated on the following edition Thunder as he is no longer a full-time wrestler.
