Wright has received awards over the years for his work, including apprenticeships in playwriting from the McKnight Foundation and the National Endowment for the Arts. His play The Pavilion, was nominated for the American Theatre Critics' Association Best New Play Award and has had over 40 productions since its premiere in 2000. It is one of four set in Pine City, Minnesota. Recent Tragic Events (also written by Wright) won an ATCA Best New Play Citation Award in 2002.

Mr. Wright holds a degree from United Theological Seminary of the Twin Cities. His first television writing debut was on the 2001 HBO series, Six Feet Under when he joined the writing staff during the 2003 season. During that season, he wrote "Twilight," for which he was nominated for an Emmy. In 2004, he was appointed Executive Story Editor with co-worker, Nancy Oliver. In 2005, he was appointed producer for the fifth and final season. He has penned 5 episodes of Six Feet Under and 1 co-written by himself and co-executive producer, Jill Soloway. In 2005, he signed a 2 year deal with Touchstone Television and served as a supervising producer during the 2005-2006 season of ABCs Lost until midseason after co-writing two episodes. Wright is currently a Co-Executive Producer and writer on ABC's Brothers & Sisters, and is developing new projects for Touchstone.
