| abstract | - "Sinestro Corps War" is an American comic book crossover event published by DC Comics in its Green Lantern and Green Lantern Corps titles. Written by Geoff Johns and Dave Gibbons and drawn by Ivan Reis, Patrick Gleason, and Ethan Van Sciver, the 11-part saga was originally published between June and December 2007. In addition to the main storyline, four supplemental "Tales of the Sinestro Corps" one-shot specials and a Blue Beetle tie-in issue were concurrently released. The story centers around the Green Lanterns of Earth—Hal Jordan, Kyle Rayner, John Stewart and Guy Gardner—and the rest of the Green Lantern Corps as they fight an interstellar war against the Sinestro Corps, an army led by the former Green Lantern Sinestro who are armed with yellow power rings and seek a universe ruled through fear. A 1986 Alan Moore "Tales of the Green Lantern Corps" story was the thematic basis of the storyline. Many characters were changed, killed off or re-introduced as a result of the event. Critical and fan reception to "Sinestro Corps War" was highly positive. Many reviewers ranked it among the top comic books of the year and the storyline's first issue garnered a 2008 Eisner Award nomination for Best Penciller/Inker or Penciller/Inker Team. The storyline was also a financial success, and several issues underwent multiple printings. "Sinestro Corps War" is the second part of a trilogy in the Green Lantern storyline, preceded by the 2005 miniseries Green Lantern: Rebirth. The conclusion of "Sinestro Corps War" sets up the third and final part of the trilogy, Blackest Night, which was published in 2009.

A Bat Family Crossover between Green Lantern, issues #21 through #25, and Green Lantern Corps, issues #14 through #18 with a prologue in the form of Green Lantern: Sinestro Corps Special #1 (plus a single tie in with Blue Beetle #20), the Sinestro Corps War is the critically acclaimed second part of Geoff Johns' Green Lantern "trilogy." (preceded by Green Lantern: Rebirth and succeeded by Blackest Night.) The story entered production in 2006 and was released following the Sinestro Corps Special in June 2007. It proved to be a massive success, financially and critically. Fans consider it among the best Green Lantern stories and it is easy to see why. It introduced new storyline concepts including the variously colored Lantern Corps and the emotional spectrum. It also brought back many Green Lanterns not seen in over 20 years such as Mogo and Sodam Yat.

On Qward, Kyle is confronted by Sinestro and becomes overwhelmed by the combined effort of his army. Sinestro reveals to Kyle that his abilities are derived from the Ion entity, which is the embodiment of willpower itself, much like Parallax is the embodiment of fear. After removing and imprisoning the Ion entity from Kyle's body, Sinestro reveals that the sentient virus Despotellis was responsible for the death of his mother. Broken and overcome with fear, Kyle is sent to the Central Battery of Qward where he is possessed by Parallax, becoming its new host. Parallax and Sinestro then meet with the Sinestro Corps' Guardian, the Anti-Monitor and are revealed to be two of the Anti-Monitor's four heralds, along with the aforementioned Superman-Prime and Cyborg Superman. As the Sinestro Corps continue to attack Green Lanterns across space, Sinestro returns to Korugar to confront his successor's successor Soranik Natu. Sinestro defeats her, but spares her life, calculating that this will force her to stay on Korugar to fulfill her responsibilities as "the Savior of Korugar." Sinestro then returns to Qward to join the battle occurring there.
