When the Ten Judges of the Dead come to collect him, he fights back, managing to erase his name and all the monkeys’ names from the Book of Life and Death. Kings of Heaven report him to the Jade Emperor for this wrongdoings. At the immortals’ residence on Mount Pénglái, Wùkōng is appointed Keeper of the Heavenly Horses to keep him out of trouble. When he finds out what a low rank this really is, he rebels, appointing himself “Great Sage, Equal of Heaven”. After a long fight, the gods are forced to recognize this title, and Wùkōng is appointed guardian of Xī Wáng Mǔ’s heavenly peach garden. When he learns that the Bā Xiān have excluded him from an important banquet, he rebels again, stealing Xī Wáng Mǔ’s peaches of immortality, Lao Tzu’s pills of longevity, and the Jade Emperor’s royal wine, devouring them all. He then returns to the Cave of the Water Curtain, where the Army of Heaven attacks. Wùkōng defeats the entire army as well as Erlang Shen, heaven’s greatest general. Buddha finally traps Wùkōng in a mountain, under a seal with the mantra Om Mani Padme Hum. Here he remains until Guānyīn makes him Xuánzàng’s disciple. He accompanies Xuánzàng on the journey to retrieve sutras from India, alternatively protecting his companions and causing mischief. Wùkōng ultimately achieves enlightenment and becomes a Buddha, finally getting his long-desired immortality.

Likewise, the Golden-banded Staff technology should only be researched if an early victory seems promising. The Paper Talisman technology only benefits Halberdiers but makes them more durable for early aggressive play. Pillar of the Ocean makes Junks (as well as Fishing Ships and Docks) more durable and as they make the bulk of naval warfare in the Classical Age, is crucial for securing ideal fishing spots. Sun Wukong's God Power, Great Journey, enables the player's units to invade enemy towns before they are able to properly defend themselves. However, Sun Wukong can also be beneficial for lengthy games. The stronger Halberdiers can remain relevant longer against enemies who favor cavalry and Shennong players can upgrade them further by researching Zhong Kui and Ao Kuang. Even Great Journey can be saved for later as it has multiple uses such as increasing the speed of peasants escaping from a raid.

Wukong travled through the seas, where he found a staff that could extend to any length, and weighed about 17,857 pounds. He defeated the four water dragons, and took from them Golden Armor, A Phoenix Helmet, and Boots that allowed him to walk on clouds. To make sure he would never die, he erased him name from the Book of Life and Death. The Emperor of Heaven heard about this, and to stop Wukong from becoming too dangerous he offered him a place among the gods. However, he was given the lowest ranking job possible, and was offended to the point where he allied with the demons of Earth in a Battle against Heaven. The gods were forced to recognize him as "Great Sage Equal to Heaven", however, Wukong once again rebelled when he found out that he was not invited to a royal banquet. He stole peaches, pills, and wine that would keep his immortality, and fought 100,000 Celestial Warriors. He was locked into a cauldron, and eventually escaped, with the ability to recognize any evil. With no options left they called to Buddha, who bet that Wukong couldn't escape from his palm. Wukong jumped, wrote on five pillars, and returned, only to discover that the pillars were Buddha's fingers. Buddha quickly sealed him away. 500 years later Xuanzang, a young monk, sought to journey to India to receive some sacred scriptures. Wukong was told that if he joined him he would he freed. He was tricked into putting on a headband that would tighten if Xuanzang said a special chant. He helped Xuanzang with his pilgramige, and was given Buddahood for his service.

  • Sun Wukong, known in the West as the Monkey King, is the main character in the classical Chinese epic novel Journey to the West. In the novel, he accompanies the monk Xuanzang on the journey to retrieve Buddhist sutras from India. Sun Wukong possesses an immense amount of strength, being able to lift his 13,500 jīn (8,100 kg) Ruyi Jingu Bang with ease. He also has superb speed, traveling 108,000 li (54,000 kilometers) in one somersault. Sun knows 72 transformations, which allows him to transform into various animals and objects; he is, however, shown with slight problems transforming into other people, since he is unable to complete the transformation of his tail. He is a skilled fighter, capable of holding his own against the best generals of heaven. Each of his hairs possesses magical properties, and is capable of transforming into a clone of the Monkey King himself, or various weapons, animals, and other objects. He also knows various spells in order to command wind, part water, conjure protective circles against demons, freeze humans, demons, and gods alike.

He is as liable as anyone of them, if not the most liable considering his authority among the organization.
