The Tobias assisted in the efforts of Captain James T. Kirk in fighting the virus and was eventually successful. After the success of this mission, Commander MacDonald was promoted to captain. (ST novel: Avenger) The Tobias was later destroyed during the Dominion War, although all of the crew under MacDonald survived, including chief medical officer, Doctor Andrea M'Benga.
