While both choices seem evil, you will only gain evil alignment if you kill the guard. Both fights are about the same, you’ll have to battle three strong opponents, so it’s just a matter of whether you’d rather gain 2500 gold while losing some alignment, or just gain 1000 gold. There is a rare glitch where the assassin falls dead randomly and you get the gold that you would get if he paid you to kill his brother.
