  • The Cosmic Balance
rdfs:comment
  • Born on the lush planet of Bakura, the Cosmic Balance began as a simple religion of neutrality. Under the guidance of the Hierophant Dif Istuvi the Balance flourished, spreading throughout Bakura, into Orus and from there throughout the galaxy. The followers of the Cosmic Balance believe that every action in the universe has an equal and opposite reaction elsewhere. If someone has good luck, then elsewhere, someone would have an equal amount of bad luck. If two people fell in love, elsewhere two lovers were separated. If one person found three credits, then three other people would lose a credit each. The concept of pruning excess spikes off of cloudberries being necessary for agreeable fruit was used as a allusion for followers of the Cosmic Balance.
  • A Belief structure that exists in The Dark Times saga which pre-dates most organised or recognised religious groups. Followed almost exclusively by the Ashur Races, The Cosmic Balance teaches that the universe exists in harmony, regardless of how chaotic things might seem. It teaches that negative aspects are just as important as positive, in that chaos must exist for their to be any point to order. Darkness is unrecognisable unless light proves its existance. Evil will always surface to give good meaning.

In these basic teachings The Cosmic Balance found many names and methods of teaching among the Ancients. Each interpreted it in a slightly different manner but the core belief system remained intact. Through The Cosmic Balance all beliefs were possible due to the fact it was a psychological paradigm and most specifically, a non-entity. A belief in other-worldly entities were common most notably in the form of Gods and Pantheons, though this was not always the case. One of the most historically significant followers of the Cosmic Balance were The Shadonian Knights, a group of Fair Folk (or 'Elves') who took it upon themselves to restore balance to the universe by maintaining that neither Darkness nor Light could be allowed constant sway over the world. Although The Shadonian Order was recorded in history as defenders of good, this was not neccesarily the case, just that in dark times their deeds were documented and revered more heavily. Unbeknownst to most, the Shadonian Order would also corrupt entire civilisations should they bring the world too heavily to order; it was their belief that this stopped the world from growing and progressing. In the most ancient of Shadonian texts it mentions that The Shadonian Knights revered a quasi-entity known only as The Equalibris.

This belief system posits that for every positive in the galaxy, there is a negative; that one person's success must come at the price of another's failure. Affluence was offset by poverty, and the strength and power of someone like a Jedi Knight came at the cost of depriving another.
