On the instructions of the Valar of the Waters Ulmo, Turgon found a secret place in the mountains of the North. His people built the city of Gondolin and Turgon became its King. His daughter Idril married the human hero Tuor and their son was Eärendil. However, Turgon's sister-son Maeglin secretly desired Idril, though first cousin relationships were not allowed among the Elves. He betrayed Gondolin to Morgoth, who destroyed the city. Turgon died in the destruction of the city. However, his daughter, son-in-law and grandson were among those who escaped.

Sam Turgon zginął dopiero w trakcie upadku swego królestwa, który spowodowany był zdradą Maeglina.
