They were so enrapt with the technology that they failed to see that the Hutts were buying the planet out from underneath them. By the time they realized their error, it was too late. The Hutts had moved in, built their palaces and theme parks, and renamed the planet Nal Hutta. The Evocii were given temporary refuge on the planet's fifth moon, which was renamed to Nar Shaddaa, but the Hutts treated them as little more than slaves. The Evocii, thus robbed of their heritage and their homes, devolved in the depths of the spaceport. The average Evocii was bipedal and near-human in stature, with narrow faces and elliptical eyes. The crown of their head was covered with knobby bumps, and their skin color ranged from pale yellow to deep lemon. Before their relocation, the Evocii had a lifespan of some 500 years, but modern Evocii rarely live beyond 200 years of age. By the time of the Clone Wars, there were less than 6,000 Evocii living on Nar Shaddaa, and it was believed that specific intervention was required to keep them from dying out in the next generation.

Hutt palaces and other constructions were built all over Evocar, and the Evocii became powerless to stop further expansion. They appealed to the Galactic Republic, though the laws of the Republic then ruled in favor of the Hutts. Many Evocii were evicted from Evocar by the Hutts and relocated to the planet's fifth moon, which would later be known as Nar Shaddaa, "The Smuggler's Moon". Evocar was then renamed Nal Hutta. The Hutts destroyed the remaining Evocii architecture and began to enslave most of the remaining natives. In the days of the Old Republic, on Nal Hutta, the few remaining Evocii not enslaved in the cities banded together into rebel tribes to harass the Hutts and their interests. A leader of one such rebel group was Huttsbane, known as a great warrior and feared by many Hutts. Ultimately, they were defeated and exterminated. The Hutts then used the Evocii on Nar Shaddaa as slave subjects as well, to build the spaceports and cities of Nal Hutta.

Negli anni della vecchia Repubblica, i restanti Evocii liberi si organizzarono in tribù e iniziarono a guerreggiare contro gli Hutt e i loro interessi. Uno di questi capi era conosciuto come Rovina degli Hutt ed era temuto da molti Hutt, oltre ad essere considerato un formidabile guerriero.
