Unlike his previous incarnations, the Doctor never felt any romantic connections with his companions, but rather considered himself as an older brother or father figure in some cases (with both being somewhat true in the case of Elizabeth McGee, his first and most frequent companion, though he did seemingly rekindle his relationship with Sarah Jane Smith when she once again resumed being his companion.
