  • Alfred Roge was an Obersturmführer (First Lieutenant) in the Waffen-SS during World War II. He was a recipient of the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross, which was awarded to recognize extreme battlefield bravery or successful military leadership during World War II. Alfred Roge was born on 1 June 1915, he worked as a professional teacher prior to World War II when he joined the Waffen SS. In 1943, he was the commander of the 13th (Infantry gun) Company, 9th SS Panzer Division Hohenstaufen. He later joined the SS Infantry gun training and replacement Regiment. In January 1945, he was posted to the SS Fortress Regiment 1 and took part in the 82 day Siege of Breslau where he was awarded the German Cross in Gold in March, and the Knight's Cross on 9 May 1945. Roge survived the war only to die of his wounds in a prisoner of war hospital.
