- Gryphons (aka griffins) are a mighty and proud race originating from the Aerie Peak. They have always aided the Alliance in times of need, and more importantly the Wildhammer dwarves. These proud creatures stand as noble symbols of the Alliance's fortitude. In addition to conveying important documents between the Human, Dwarven, and Gnomish leaders in the regions surrounding Stormwind and Ironforge, the gryphons have also been harnessed for paid transportation along routes throughout Alliance controlled territories. In order to travel by gryphon, you must first speak to a Gryphon Master at the destination point. Upon doing so, the location will be added to your list of known Flight Paths. Each gryphon ride costs a varying amount of coin. In World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade, Armored Gryphons are the epic flying mount of choice for the Alliance in Outland. In World of Warcraft: Cataclysm, they will also be available for the Alliance in the planet of Azeroth Gryphons have a long history of participation in Alliance military maneuvers. In The Burning Crusade expansion, players can participate in bombing quests atop an armored gryphon provided to them for that purpose.
- Carla Balducci, code name Gryphon, was the leader of the Cadet Crusaders, a teen superhero organization in New York. She got the leader position from Assistant D.A. Linus Garfield, instead of being elected and despite the fact that she's a just power armor jockey, with no powers of her own. She used to be the kid sidekick/apprentice of the hero Gargoyle, in defiance of the Kid Sidekick Laws, before he died. She appears not to know very much about the power armor rig she uses, which strongly suggests she's not a gadgeteer or devisor.

- The Gryphon is a a well-known species of predators found throughout the wildlands of Allansia and the Old World. They have the heads, wings and talons of Eagles, but the bodies and legs of Lions. Understandably, this makes them incredibly proud and fierce creatures, well-deserved of the lordship that is theirs over the heavens, second only to the Dragon races.
- Referred to as "The Independent City," Gryphon is an offshore metropolis located in Queensland, Australia. Gryphon was abandoned after losing its central infrastructure to large scale terrorists attacks, and has since been occupied by various armed groups and corporations.
- Gryphons are not sentient. They are wild animals. Gryphons and dragons are natural enemies, and rarely do their territories overlap.
- A Gryphon is a Terran fighter craft dating back to the early stages of the Guild Wars. It has air-to-air and air-to-surface capabilities and a high level of maneuverability in most atmospheric conditions. Using turbofans and ionic thrusters, ace pilots could dodge missiles at literally the last second before launching a counterattack. Small platforms could also be attached to the sides to allow additional personnel to ride and be inserted combat zones (Halo: Hornet). For even greater damage, they could switch to high heat Sabot Rounds to pierce heavily armored vehicles (Dreamworks/Paramount Pictures: Transformers). Against capital ships, they would use Taurus missiles and later Heat Seeking missiles with the advent of prototype cloaking technology. For defense, the fighters used electronic chaff against enemy missiles and lasers. As more advanced fighters capable of space and planetary environments and cheaper laser weaponry came into use, Gryphons gradually became obsolete along the core and fringe worlds. Special abilities:
* Sabot Rounds - unit gains +10 attack bonus and ignores armor
* Chaff (passive) - decreases enemy missile damage by -15
* Load/Unload (upgrade) - can load up to 2 small infantry units once platform is researched
* Heat Seeker (upgrade) - unit fires missiles that can track cloaked units
- The Gryphon appears to be somewhat overbearing and dismissive of the obsessions and dismays of other characters, such as the Mock Turtle's sorrow and the Queen of Hearts' executions, neither of which (according to the Gryphon) have any basis in fact. He speaks with a slightly ungrammatical Cockney-like accent and makes demands of the Mock Turtle, which are obeyed despite the latter creature's implicit objections. In addition, he is prone to making cough-like sounds written as "Hjckrrh!", which seem to have little meaning and may be involuntary. In Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, the Gryphon features with the Mock Turtle in Chapter 9, "The Mock Turtle's Story", Chapter 10, "The Lobster Quadrille", and briefly at the start of Chapter 11, "Who Stole the Tarts?". The Gryphon was ordered by the Queen to take Alice to meet the Mock Turtle; this he did, and stayed with them for a long time, demanding that the Mock Turtle tell its history, as well as several poems. The two creatures go on to explain certain features of their world which are apparently nonsense to Alice, before Alice and the Gryphon are summoned to a criminal trial, leaving the Mock Turtle behind.

- An elder Dragon that first appears in MH Prime 1. It has a more bipedal stance like a Fatalis or Dire Miralis, but it resembles a Griffon from Ancient Mythology, leading some to beleive that it belongs to a different group of monsters altogether.
