Doppler then became the leader of an army comprised of some of the most powerful Mavericks the world had ever seen.

He is one of Malygos's most trusted associates, and the one Malygos has the most respect for. This draws some envy from the others, but he has earned their trust as well. Doppler works for Malygos because Malygos is possibly the only reasonable authority figure left in the multiverse. Doppler may have some connection to Washu given his uncanny understanding of most things.

Later on in the story, it is revealed that Sigma took control of Dr. Doppler and forced him to create a new battle body for him. He also rebuilt Vile, and hired Bit and Byte of the Nightmare Police to destroy X and Zero. Doppler himself is fought at the end of Doppler stage 3, where he is vulnerable to the Acid Burst. Upon being defeated, Doppler comes to his senses, telling X about Sigma's new body and where to find it. What happens to Dr. Doppler's afterwards depends on whether or not Zero is still active. If Zero is still active, Zero comes in with Doppler's actual Sigma Virus vaccine equipped on his saber and incapacitates Sigma. If Zero had to go back to the Hunter Base for repairs, Dr. Doppler will take Zero's place, but he will use the vaccine on his own body and sacrifice himself to stop Sigma. Either way, Dr. Doppler has made no subsequent appearances, and his true fate is unknown.

He lived on the planet Canis Major, currently part of Malygos's empire. Canisian society awards high status to those earning a doctoral degree (more difficult to attain than any Earth degree, surely.) Doppler is the de facto ruler of Canis, by virtue of posessing over thirty doctorates. He willingly allowed Canis Major to fall into Malygos's hands due to his obsessions with order. He has an intense dislike of chaos and disorder, and will go at any length to stop it. He also has a rivalry with Vultran, due to the latter's experimentation on Doppler. Recently he has been working with Malygos on an unknown project. It is unknown what this project will entail.
