  • Announced at E3 2001, Temple (神殿, Temple) is a stage in Super Smash Bros. Melee which returns in Super Smash Bros. Brawl as a Melee Stage, and in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U as a familiar stage. It is commonly known as Hyrule Temple (this name appears in Melee's instruction booklet at page 49), though its proper name is Temple (since "Hyrule" denotes Temple's location). An extremely large stage, it is banned in most official tournaments because its size provides opportunities for game-breaking camping and stalling.
  • The Hyrule: Temple stage is often banned in Super Smash Bros. tournaments due to its large size and irregular terrain, which allows players much more time to survive. The other frowned upon feature about the Temple is the infamous island on the lower part of the stage. Nintendo Power has given it various names, including "The Fight Club," "Pansy Island," and "The Hall of Pain." Because the area is mostly walled, many players with high damage percentages, sometimes up to 300% or more, are able to hide down on the ledge before they fly off of the stage.

The Temple is one of the most diverse stages in Super Smash Bros. Melee due to the various structures scattered throughout the stage, which allow a wide variety of fighting terrain. The infamous "Fight Club" section is the most common location for players to fight, allowing the longest open flat area in the stage. Other spots include the very ruined section near the right portion of the stage, which is an excellent place to avoid attacks. The size and diversity of the Temple makes it a good place for a long and more relaxed battle, but it is not ideal for a fast paced, serious one.
