  • Hanashi Niwa

  • Hanashi Niwa or Story Gardens were one of the most fabulous creations in Rokugan. The first to create such a garden was an Agasha shugenja, but other clans quickly picked up the practice (most notably the Lion and Crane). The story gardens were like a hedge maze, but the corridors were not linear. As someone enters the garden they noticed how all the twisting tree limbs, every blossomin flower and every smooth stone had been deliberately detailed. Each garden was devoted to a particular story, and the viewer was told the story as they walked the twisting paths of the garden. One of the most impressive gardens in Rokugan was situated in Shiro Mirumoto, telling the story of Mirumoto's life until he entered the Shadowlands on the Day of Thunder.
