- Argos ist ein hyborisches Königreich südlich von Ophir gelegen - im Westen von Koth und Shem eingeschlossen und südlich von Zingara. Argos ist als Seefahrernation bekannt und so gelten die Küstenstädte dieses Landes als "kosmopolitische Städte". Die Hauptstadt Messantia ist an der Mündung des Khoratas gelegen. Das Khoratas-Flusstal ist zugleich das fruchtbarste Land Argos'. In diesem Tal findet man hauptsächlich Obstplantagen, Bauernhöfe und Eichenwälder. Diese gelten als Grundstock der Argossianischen Schiffsbauindustrie. Weiteres Ackerland liegt südlich der Spukwälder im Norden an der Grenze zu Zingara. Während in den Küstenregionen das Leben pulsiert, so fällt der kulturelle Standard zum Landesinneren hin ab. Die Argossaner sind ein Mischvolk shemititschen und zingarischen Ursprungs. Die Lage an der Küste macht die Argossianischen Seefahrer außerdem zu den besten der hyborischen Welt. Aufgrund der Rivalitäten, die Seeherrschaft betreffend mit Zingara, hegen die Argossaner eine lange und innige Feindschaft mit diesem Volk. Ciało argosów jest zdolne wytwarzać zakończone wspomnianymi paszczami nibynóżki, mogące służyć do manipulowania przedmiotami. Istoty te poruszają się poprzez pełzanie, które wykonują równie swobodnie po podłożu jak po ścianach i sufitach. Są również w stanie lewitować z bardzo mała prędkością. Ubarwienie argosów waha się od błękitu po fiolet a ich ciała wydzielają kwietną woń. Nie noszą ubrań a swój tymczasowy dobytek przechowują zwykle we wnętrzu ciała, gdzie po kilku tygodniach ulega rozkładowi. Argosy są wszystkożerne, z upodobania są jednak drapieżnikami. Lubią zwabiać ofiary w pułapki i pochłaniać je w całości. Argos jest w stanie wchłonąć do wnętrza ciała istotę nawet sporo większą od siebie. Ofiara jest poddawana działaniu enzymów trawiennych i jeśli nie wydostanie się w ciągu pierwszych chwil po wchłonięciu, zostaje strawiona żywcem. Rozsiane po całym cielsku oczy dysponują potężną magią, podobnie jak oczy beholderów. Pomimo, iż dysponują inteligencją (niektóre nawet wysoką), argosy są istotami kierowanymi głównie przez instynkty, a najpotężniejszym z tych instynktów jest potężny apetyt. Zazwyczaj polują do momentu, aż pochłoną ilość pożywienia dwukrotnie większą od siebie a następnie oddalają się w celu strawienia posiłku. Głodne argosy kurczą się z czasem, a w razie dłuższego braku pożywienia zapadają w hibernację, otaczając się ochronną poczwarką wytworzoną z zewnętrznych warstw ciała. W takiej postaci są w stanie przetrwać do roku czasu. Argosy są z reguły samotnikami, choć zdarza im się pracować dla beholderów. Są w stanie przetrwać wędrówkę po Dzikiej Przestrzeni dzięki skomplikowanej fizjologii i zdarza im się podróżować samotnie przy pomocy komet i rojów meteorów.

- Argos was the birthplace of Perseus, son of Zeus and Danaë. When his grandfather King Acrisius heard a prophecy that Perseus would one day kill him, he had the young man chained to a sea cliff outside the city, and left to be eaten by a monster. However, Andromeda foiled this plan by killing the monster and rescuing Perseus. Perseus and Andromeda then flew on the sandals of Hermes above the city of Argos, and Perseus decided to test fate by hovering over the royal palace and dropping his broken chains from the sky, to see if they would land on Acrisius' head and kill him. Acrisius survived, and continued ruling Argos, so the two young people left for Mount Olympus.
