  • The Failsafe was a creature kept within the basement of Wolfram & Hart.
  • When a cultural observation probe malfunctions and crash-lands on a pre-warp world, the S.C.E. is sent in to destroy it before the technology falls into the hands of a civilization not prepared for it. Unfortunately, when Commander Gomez and her team arrive, they find that the device has already been captured by terrorist forces who intend to reverse-engineer the technology into a weapon that will change the balance of power on their world to deadly effect! Now it's a race against time for the S.C.E. to find and destroy the probe before it's too late!
  • Failsafe is one of many power-enhancing Mini-Cons scattered across Earth. A member of the Green Mini-Con Team, when Powerlinxed to a larger Transformer, Failsafe fires homing missiles that can track opponents over long distances and deliver massive damage.
  • Failsafe was the name given to a male Rakata who during the height of the Infinite Empire. For speaking heresies, he was placed in stasis on the planet Belsavis and given the express task of ensuring that the World Razer was never freed from the prison world by keeping the Burning Way operational. During the Cold War, he was consulted by a citizen of the Galactic Republic and informed him to activate the mechanism to entrap the World Razer before it could free itself from Belsavis.
  • Failsafes are very important when it comes to nitro vehicles. The device stops the vehicle when it comes across radio interference or if the batteries get low. Without it the vehicle would continue at the last throttle position it received until it hit something or the engine died. The failsafe is connected in line between the receiver and the throttle servo. When a failsafe detects a loss of radio signal or low battery voltage, it will move the throttle servo to a pre-determined position, set by the modeler, usually full or partial braking, to stop the vehicle and prevent damage.
  • A failsafe is an electrical component that automatically ceases the operation of a robot or other radio controlled vehicle when the radio signal from the transmitter is lost. Failsafes can either be a separate component or integrated into a speed controller or receiver. "On Middle and Heavyweight robots all operating circuits that are deemed to be 'dangerous' (normally the drive and weapons) must have an approved failsafe device fitted to each circuit." — Robot Wars Rulebook, 2003 Failsafe devices or capability continue to be compulsory to be fitted to all robots in FRA competitions today.

Failsafes can either be a separate component or integrated into a speed controller or receiver. "On Middle and Heavyweight robots all operating circuits that are deemed to be 'dangerous' (normally the drive and weapons) must have an approved failsafe device fitted to each circuit." — Robot Wars Rulebook, 2003 Failsafes are seen as an essential safety feature for combat robots, preventing them from going out of control if signal is lost and potentially injuring someone. They were only a necessity for every competing roboteer in the later series, due to several accidents relating to out of control robots in the pits. The main driver for making failsafes compulsory was roboteer Rex Garrod who claimed that making all robots capable of failing safe would largely reduce the risk for any more accidents. However, as the Robot Wars arena was a television studio, there were many sources of radio interference - cameras, power cables, lights, and the internal combustion engines fitted to many of the house robots. Consequently, radio signal was often difficult to maintain, and many teams - particularly in earlier series - had problems with their failsafes cutting in and making the robot stop unexpectedly under normal battle conditions, which was frequently a cause for complaint. The term "failsafe" was often misunderstood as a result to be anything which caused a robot to stop, most often the removable link, another required safety feature. (Unlike links, failsafes only stop the robot for the duration of signal loss, and do not immediately and permanently remove all power) Failsafe devices or capability continue to be compulsory to be fitted to all robots in FRA competitions today.

Most electric vehicles do not need a failsafe because modern electronic speed controls include radio priority circuitry, which serves the same purpose, except the speed control just returns to zero throttle, rather than a user-set position.
