  • An electronic book. Also called e-book or digital book. A text-based publication in digital form readable on computers or other digital devices. Ebooks are usually read on dedicated hardware devices known as e-readers or e-book devices. Personal computers and some cell phones can also be used to read e-books. Examples of e-readers are the Amazon Kindle and the Barnes & Noble Nook.

abstract
  • An eBook, or "electronic book", is a publishing format by which a book is created, distributed and read as a computerized file, as opposed to being printed on paper and bound. Most recent Star Trek books are released simultaneously as eBooks and in traditional print formats. An increasing number of older Trek titles by Pocket Books which are no longer in print as physical books are also available as eBooks. However, titles indentified as eBooks in this wiki are primarily works that are released exclusively in electronic format, such as the Star Trek: Starfleet Corps of Engineers series. These works are reprinted in physical omnibus books at a later date. Until 2006 the only exclusively eBook released literature was the SCE series, however with the relaunching of the series to Star Trek: Corps of Engineers a reduction was made to the number of stories in the series to make room for other eBook projects. The first such events were two miniseries each celebrating the anniversaries of TOS and TNG; Mere Anarchy and Slings and Arrows. At the conclusion of the Slings and Arrows miniseries in early 2008 Pocket Books have put the line of original eBooks on hiatus. [1] Pocket revived the original eBook in 2011, with the release of The Struggle Within. Lust's Latinum Lost (and Found), the first original Star Trek: Deep Space Nine eBook, was released in 2014, with a second, Rules of Accusation, released in 2016.

Here on RPGBooks, we simply provide a space for the creation of an electronic book. If, upon the project's completion, the developer wants to convert it into another format (for design or layout purposes), that's up to them: we provide no such services here. All texts will continue to be available in Wikitext format for any interested comers.

Original eBook publications were first trialled by Pocket Books in 2000 with the launch of the Star Trek: Starfleet Corps of Engineers series. These eBook-exclusive novellas were initially intended to have no print release, but were later collected and reprinted in standard paperback format. At the time, there were no dedicated devices for reading eBooks – the launch of the series was intended to coincide with that of the Microsoft Reader software. [1] [2] The series continued for seven years. Other early examples of Star Trek eBook releases include the hardcover release of the Star Trek: New Frontier novel Stone and Anvil, which included a CD-ROM containing all of the previous books in the series. Two six-part miniseries were released in 2006 and 2007 to mark the 40th and 20th anniversaries of Star Trek: The Original Series and Star Trek: The Next Generation, respectively. In March 2008 , it was announced that original eBook publications from Pocket Books would go on hiatus. [3] Series editor Keith R.A. DeCandido later noted that the concept "was about ten years ahead of its time" and so failed to find the audience it needed, with SCE being cancelled just as devices such as the Amazon Kindle entered the market. [4] Original eBook releases returned in 2011 , in the form of one-shot novellas as part of the various ongoing novel series. Beginning with In Tempest's Wake, these books have been released under the Pocket Star Books electronic imprint of Pocket Books.
