While the family watches a comedy show, Brian isn't impressed and insists he could do better. At the Chuckle Bucket Comedy Club, Brian's act bombs when he tries political humor so he steals Stewie's jokes from his Twitter feed. But when Stewie catches on, he ends their friendship and builds a Lyle, robot friend programmed to learn and grow smarter. Stewie exposes Lyle to various events to teach him things but Lyle soon surpasses Stewie's knowledge and later builds his own friends to replace Stewie. The robots decide to prank him to make him feel inferior. Desperate for their approval, Stewie complies but fails. Brian finds him still trying for their approval and hatches a plan to help him take out the robots. As Stewie tries to warn how clever they are, Brian simply destroys them by spraying them with water from a garden hose.

As Lois gets ready for bed, a drunken Peter comes in and falls asleep on her side of the bed, leaving her his side which has collapsed springs. The next day, Lois insists they go out to buy a new mattress. As the salesman proves not to be a reliable source for advice, they try out mattresses on their own then buy one on Amazon. That night, Peter is ready to make love but Lois rejects him to keep the new mattress nice for a while. At the Clam with the guys, Peter snaps due to tension building up so the guys hit on the idea of getting the old mattress back. Trying to find the mattress, they head to the Brookfield Insane Asylum where they get captured and declared insane except for Quagmire who simply wants to have sex with the patients. Checking out a porno shoot, they locate the mattress and take it home. Lois objects until Peter points all of the stains that marked their children and make love on it again.
Happy that things returned to normal, Lois and Peter find that they have severe itching and get rid of the old mattress again. Brian dumps the remains of the robots on top of it curbside where it is found by Herbert, who smells a trap.
