In dim lit areas it will take significantly longer for Dirt to change into Grass, and if you cover Dirt like by placing any kind of item on top of it, it definitely won't change to green Grass. Sometimes Dirt also does not seem to change into Grass in Swamplands for no apparent reason. Currently (as of R29 in March 2016) Dirt will not turn into Savannah Grass nor Dead Grass if touching these blocks. Generally Dirt turns to Grass faster if player-characters are present and way slower if there is no one near. Pigsies (during daytime) and Night Pigsies during the night tend to spawn on (green) Grass even in very low spaces of only 1 block if that area isn't lit by artificial light (torches, lamps, lanterns). Also Leafies (during daytime) and Night Leafies (during the night) might occasionally spawn on Grass. More Red Mushrooms, Turnips or Lettuce can slowly spawn on Grass here or there in time. The longer you play, the more of those will spawn. Wood Treasure Chests can spawn on Grass blocks during (ingame-)night-times occasionally in dark places in range of view of player-characters too, no matter where they are placed. You can mine ("pull") Grass without any Power Cell needed, and you will then obtain the grass block directly. These blocks can be placed too. If Tallgrass or Red Mushrooms have grown on a block of Grass, you will also receive them when pulling the Grass away under them. If you have a Wood Mining Cell or Charged Wood Mining Cell equipped while pulling Grass, these Power Cells will lose a bit of durability. Some are more suitable for lawns than others. The different grasses have color variations and ability to thrive in different climates.

Although they do not function physically or emotionally like we do, they are still technically alive. Who knows? Those herbaceous plants may be silently mourning when the first winter breeze comes upon them, how they dread the day of the first snowfall that will tragically torture them to the brink of death. Sometimes, after the harsh winds of winter have finished and gone away and spring abundantly thaws the earth with warmth and rain, you see light brown patches of grass on the lawn. Those are the grass that weren't able to survive the deadly, evil cold and have suffered to the point of death. We ignore this, and only care about the looks of the lawn and how ugly it now appears after winter has taken its toll. We are selfish, disgusting creatures who care nothing about the lives of other beings. Things we think aren't correct, that aren't perfect in our minds, no longer have meaning to us. Things that we don't describe as "cute," we push off into the dust. We must change our despicable ways before it's too late, before realization arrives much too late to our incompetent minds, and we are faced with consequences in the beyond.
