They need level 35 Hunter to do so, and gain 44 experience points for every snowy knight they catch. The Snowy knight can then be used on another player if they have accept aid on and will heal 975 life points.

Catching butterflies usually requires both hands free but the Enhanced yaktwee stick can be used, when it is sheathed. The player will follow it until it is caught. Following an update on the 10 September 2013 catching a butterfly bare-handed gives a chance (4 were obtained in a sample of 5000 butterflies) of obtaining a Crystal triskelion fragment. After the butterfly has been caught the player will release it, meaning that the butterfly cannot be kept. Butterflies respawn very quickly; to minimise the amount of time running around trying to find them, camp a spot that spawns a butterfly with a small wander radius.

It can be used to heal players in boss fights, such as at the Corporeal Beast, King Black Dragon and glacors. However, players need to run towards a person to heal them with a snowy knight, which limits its effectiveness and convenience. There are also many food items that heal more per inventory slot or per bite.
