In that capacity, he served on the bridge of the Enterprise during Starfleet's battle with a Borg cube in Sector 001, and piloted the ship through a temporal vortex to the year 2063, in pursuit of a Borg sphere which had been launched from the cube. Along with Captain Picard and Lieutenant Commander Worf, Hawk attempted to prevent the Borg from transforming the Enterprise's deflector dish into an interplexing beacon with which to contact the Borg living in the 21st century. As the three of them attempted to release all three maglocks in order to disengage the deflector dish from the ship, they came under attack by Borg drones, one of which was able to subdue Hawk before he could release his maglock. Hawk was subsequently assimilated, and thereafter attempted to stop Picard from releasing the last maglock. As Hawk, now a drone, attempted to shatter the faceplate of Picard's EV suit, he was shot and killed by a phaser rifle wielded by Lieutenant Commander Worf. (Star Trek: First Contact)
