  • "A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away," back-benchers carped about the Parliament, much as they do today, complaining that the House of Lords was a bit less than lordly, as well as being a bit less than awake. They had comparable complaints about the House of Commons, that the size was unwieldy — this even before it went multi-storey and began using floating pallet-jacks to move speakers to the podium. They said it was too long a drive for the Scots and a cumbersome ferry ride for distant constituencies such as Tatooine.

His torso features the standard grey Imperial Officer uniform with his Grand Moff insignia in the upper left-hand corner, and one silver code cylinder below each shoulder. His hands are light nougat and his legs are grey. Later in 2016, two new variations of Tarkin were released. First, a variant of Tarkin during the events of Star Wars: Rebels, with a redesigned appearance in dark tan, a new hairpiece, and new printing. In the mainstream Star Wars sets, Tarkin was also featured in the redesigned Death Star. This version retained the new hairpiece in a lighter grey and also returned to the typical grey officer uniform, with updated printing.
  • Governor of the Outer Rim Territories] and a native of Eriadu, Grand Moff Wilhuff Tarkin was one of Emperor Palpatine's most loyal administrators, a true adherent to the philosophy behind the Imperial doctrine. Shortly after the fall of the Old Republic and the rise of the Empire, a young Captain Tarkin oversaw the construction of the first Death Star with Palpatine and Darth Vader. Being a man with an almost unquenchable thirst for power, Tarkin was promoted to the rank of Grand Moff and placed in charge of the Death Star by the Emperor himself when the battle station was finally completed years later, and carried such political clout and favor with Palpatine that he was above even Darth Vader himself. Tarkin is the man responsible for the destruction of Princess Leia Organa's homeworld of Alderaa when he used it to test the battle station's destructive capabilities. He ultimately perished aboard the Death Star when it was destroyed by Luke Skywalker at the Battle of Yavin, after he foolishly ignored warnings that the Rebel Alliance] had detected a weakness in the battle station.
  • Grand Moff Wilhuff Tarkin, also known as Governor Tarkin, is a major antagonist in the Star Wars franchise. He is the secondary antagonist of the first film in the original trilogy A New Hope, the tertiary antagonist of the 2016 movie Rogue One and a recurring antagonist of the prequel series Star Wars: Rebels. He is an Imperial governor and in charge of the Imperial military battle station known as the Death Star. He acts as Darth Vader's superior. After Princess Leia has been captured by the Empire and has been brought onto the Death Star, Tarkin manages to convince her to tell him the location of the rebel base, threatening Leia's home planet Alderaan. However, after finding out the base location Tarkin activates the Death Star nonetheless, destroying Alderaan and killing billions. He then has the Death Star take course on Yavin 4 where he intends to wipe out the rebels once and for all. However, before he can reach his goal the Death Star is blown up by rebel fighters, with Tarkin being one of the casualties. Tarkin was portrayed by the late Peter Cushing in A New Hope. In Revenge of the Sith he was portrayed by Wayne Pygram. In Rogue One Guy Henry portrayed Tarkin, with CGI being used to superimpose Cushing's face over Henry. In his animated TV appearances, he was voice by Stephen Stanton who also voiced Stinky Pete in videogames.

They said it was too long a drive for the Scots and a cumbersome ferry ride for distant constituencies such as Tatooine. In the resulting upheaval, the influence of the Parliament was lost entirely, except at ribbon-cutting ceremonies; and civil servants came to power. Unfortunately, unlike elected politicians, who have to at least pretend to pretend to care about the concerns of the people, civil servants can do whatever they please, which usually boils down to business-as-usual until they collect cushy pensions at the end of decades of claiming to be out-to-lunch, sending applicants to the dreaded Next Window Over, and sending subordinates' memos back for complete rewrite. No other government administrator personified this disdain for the electorate more than the Grand Toff Markin. He drove a fast set of wheels, in fact completely spherical, and it ate planets for breakfast. He implemented the notorious Markin Doctrine, in which the elevator to the Complaints Department of the Imperial Administrative Office was secretly converted into a giant cannon that ejected anyone who arrived to "have a stern word with Lord Vader" into space.
