Hreidmar weigerte sich, seinen überlebenden Söhnen ihren Anteil an dem Gold zu geben und Fafnir tötete seinen Vater und nahm den Schatz an sich. Daraufhin floh Reginn und wurde später der Mentor von Sigurd (Siegfried). Fafnir verwandelte sich in einen Lindwurm (wobei das Wort Lindwurm früher für jeden Drachen verwendet wurde, es könnte sich auch um einen europäischen Drachen oder eine andere Art handeln) und trug den Oegishjalmr (Schreckenshelm), um noch grausamer auszusehen, und er begann wie ein echter Drache, seinen Schatz zu bewachen. Sigurd erschlug Fafnir und danach auch seinen Mentor Regin, der den Schatz an sich nehmen wollte. Nach einer anderen Überlieferung kochte Sigurd das Herz des Fafnir für Regin. Dabei kostete er von dem Blut und verstand fortan die Sprache der Vögel, welche ihm sagten, dass Regin ihn töten wolle, um den Schatz zu stehlen. Später badete Sigurd in Fafnirs Blut, was ihn unverwundbar machte. Nur eine Stelle, zwischen den Schulterblättern, an der beim Bad ein Lindenblatt haftete, blieb verwundbar. Sigurd wurde später an dieser Stelle von seinem Freund Hagen erstochen, der den Nibelungenhort für sich wollte.
- Fafnir is a former Kzin colony covered almost entirely in water. It has one continent, called Shasht. It was captured by humans during the Man-Kzin Wars. The family of Carlos Wu secretly moved to Fafnir from Earth. Upon reaching Fafnir, Feather Filip shot Beowulf Shaeffer in the chest with an ARM punchgun, but Carlos managed to escape with Tanya and Louis and Sharrol Janss killed Feather by cutting her throat, then decapitating her. Sharrol then placed Bey's head in Carlos's nanotechnology-based AutoDoc where it reconstructed his body, sizing it to the Intensive Care Cavity of the autodoc, which was tailored to Carlos's body proportions. Eventually, Beowulf recovered, was reunited with Sharrol, and had two more children with her, Jeena and an unnamed second child.

In short, he says after entering, he will lock the door and no one will come in or out until all of the guests have been "taken care of." After entering the manor, he is never seen again. It is likely that Fafnir is a member at a different Dark Brotherhood Sanctuary at some other location in Cyrodiil or abroad as he states that he and the Hero "share the same Mother."

- Fafnir is the a villain from the Marvel universe and is based on the mythical creature of the same name. Fafnir was once the King of Nastrond, an extradimensional realm on the continent of Asgard. As Fafnir and his people were thoroughly evil, the ruler of Asgard, Odin, destroyed the kingdom and all of Fafnir's subjects. Fafnir himself was left to die in the ruined wasteland that was his former kingdom. Fafnir, however, found a pool with magical properties, and while drinking from the pool sustained Fafnir, it also transformed him into a massive dragon. Fafnir now possessed strength on par with the Thunder God Thor; a devastating flame breath; the ability to cast illusions and control weak-minded individuals. Fafnir was now almost invulnerable, as his dragon hide was so dense that he barely felt blows from Thor's hammer Mjolnir. Despite these tremendous abilities, Fafnir was never able to defeat Thor. On the first occasion that Fafnir battled Thor, he was sent hurtling into a deep chasm created by a blow from the Thunder God. On the second occasion, Loki freed and assisted Fafnir against Thor but both were held at bay by the combined might of Mjolnir and the magical Nornstones until the intervention of Odin. On the final occasion, Fafnir was killed by Thor when he used Mjolnir to drive an enchanted spear into Fafnir's heart.
- Fafnir was an Akurian from the planet Akuria II. He was apparently second in command to Colonel Odan after the capture of the majority of Odan's forces during an attack on his War Sled.
- In Norse mythology, Fafnir was the son of the dwarf king Hreidmar and the brother of Regin and Ótr. After Ótr was killed by Loki, Hreidmar received the cursed gold of the dwarf Andvari's as repayment for the loss of his son. Fafnir and Regin then killed their father to get the gold, but Fafnir decided he wanted it all, becoming a dragon (symbol of greed). Regin then sent his foster-son, Sigurd, to kill the dragon. Sigurd succeeded by digging a pit under the trail Fáfnir used to walk to a stream and plunging his sword Gram into his heart as he walked past. Regin, however, corrupted by the curse on Andvari's gold, planned to kill Sigurd to take the treasure for himself, but Sigurd, having eaten part of Fafnir's cooked heart, was warned by birds of Regin's attack and ended up killing him.
- In the Icelandic Volsunga Saga (late 13th century), Fáfnir was a dwarf gifted with a powerful arm and fearless soul. He guarded his father's house of glittering gold and flashing gems. He was the strongest and most aggressive of the three brothers. Regin recounts to Sigurd how Odin, Loki and Hœnir were traveling when they came across Ótr, who had the likeness of an otter during the day. Loki killed the otter with a stone and the three Æsir skinned their catch. The gods came to Hreidmar’s dwelling that evening and were pleased to show off the otter's skin. Hreidmar and his remaining two sons then seized the gods and held them captive while Loki was made to gather the ransom, which was to stuff the otter’s skin with gold and cover its outside with red gold. Loki fulfilled the task by gathering the cursed gold of Andvari's as well as the ring, Andvaranaut, both of which were told to Loki as items that would bring about the death of whoever possessed them. Fáfnir then killed Hreidmar to get all the gold for himself. He became very ill-natured and greedy, so he went out into the wilderness to keep his fortune, eventually turning into a serpent or dragon (symbol of greed) to guard his treasure. Fáfnir also breathed poison into the land around him so no one would go near him and his treasure, wreaking terror in the hearts of the people. Regin plotted revenge so that he could get the treasure and sent his foster-son, Sigurd Fåvnesbane, to kill the dragon. Regin instructed Sigurd to dig a pit in which he could lie in wait under the trail Fáfnir used to get to a stream and there plunge his sword, Gram, into Fafnir's heart as he crawls over the pit to the water. Regin then ran away in fear, leaving Sigurd to the task. As Sigurd dug, Odin appeared in the form of an old man with a long beard, advising the warrior to dig more trenches for the blood of Fáfnir to run into, presumably so that Sigurd does not drown in the blood. The earth quaked and the ground nearby shook as Fáfnir crawled to the water. Fáfnir also blew poison into his path as it made his way to the stream. Sigurd, undaunted, stabbed Fáfnir in the left shoulder as he crawled over the ditch he was lying in and succeeded in mortally wounding the dragon. As the great serpent lies there dying, he speaks to Sigurd and asks him what his name is, what his father's and mother's names are, and who sent him to kill such a terrifying dragon. Fafnir figures out that his own brother, Regin, plotted the dragon's death, and tells Sigurd that he is happy that Regin will also cause Sigurd's death. Sigurd tells Fáfnir that he will go back to the dragon's lair and take all his treasure. Fáfnir warns Sigurd that all who possess the gold will be fated to die, but Sigurd replies that all men must one day die, and it is the dream of many men to be wealthy until that dying day, so he will take the gold without fear. Regin then returned to Sigurd after Fáfnir was slain. Corrupted by greed, Regin planned to kill Sigurd after Sigurd had cooked Fáfnir’s heart for him to eat and take all the treasure for himself. However, Sigurd, having tasted Fáfnir's blood while cooking the heart, gained knowledge of the speech of birds and learned of Regin's impending attack from the Oðinnic (of Odin) birds' discussion and killed Regin by cutting off his head with Gram. Sigurd then ate some of Fáfnir’s heart and kept the remainder, which would later be given to Gudrun after their marriage. Some versions are more specific about Fáfnir's treasure hoard, mentioning the swords Ridill and Hrotti, the helm of terror and a golden coat of chainmail.
