He was awarded the German Cross in Gold in September 1943, while serving with the 8th SS Cavalry Division Florian Geyer. He was posted to the 52nd SS Cavalry Regiment, 22nd SS Volunteer Cavalry Division Maria Theresia and awarded the Knight's Cross in December 1944. Anton Vandieken survived the war and died on the 29 October 2005.
