  • Loon Mountain is a mountain in Lincoln, New Hampshire, in Grafton County. It is in the White Mountain National Forest. The 3,065-foot mountain may be best known for Loon Mountain ski resort, which, like most New England mountain resorts, has attempted to expand into an all-season recreation area. It hosts the finals for the northeast circuit of the Mountain Dew Vertical Challenge on the last Saturday of March or first Saturday of April each ski season. The ski resort is a popular recreation point for many in New England during the winter months. According to state ski association, Ski New Hampshire (www.skinh.com), Loon Mountain hosts more skier visits than any other resort in the state. Loon is serviced by ten ski lifts: one four-passenger gondola, two detachable quad chairs, three fixed-grip double chairs, one fixed-grip triple chair and three surface lifts. For the 2007-2008 ski season Loon hopes to open its long-anticipated South Peak with three new trails, a detachable quad chair for skiing and a fixed-grip quad chair to transport skiers between the old and new development. Centex Properties is building a real estate development at the base of South Peak. In the following years the new home and condo sites will be connected to the ski area with new lifts. Locals and tourists alike buy season passes to Loon through the Threedom Pass, which is used for Loon, Cranmore Mountain, and Waterville Valley.
