When the Portuguese monarchy was restored in 1968 and his wife made Queen, he was also elevated to the office of King, not as consort, but as co-regent. However, he would die in 1968, one year later, making his reign as King of Portugal short lived. With Maria he had a single daughter, Maria Theresa, who would be kidnapped by the anarchist-republican group known as the Revolutionaries and sent to Great Britain, where she was somehow adopted by a muggle family and given the name of Lily Evans. He died in 1968 with a myocardial infraction, and following his wishes he was buried in the Royal Pantheon of the House of Braganza, not survivng to see the return of his daughter.
