  • In The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, the word Teacher has two distinct usages. It can refer to anyone who teaches, such as a Sunday School, Seminary, or Institute teacher, or it can refer to an office in the Priesthood. Like other offices, such as Bishop, Priest, or High Priest, among others, the office of Teacher has specific functions and duties. This office belongs to the Aaronic Priesthood, one of the two divisions of the Priesthood in Mormonism. Worthy young men of the Mormon Church may be ordained teachers when they are at least 14 years old. A teacher has all the responsibilities of a deacon as well as additional duties. Some of their additional responsibilities include preparing the Sacrament, as Mormons call the Eucharist, visiting the homes of members as part of the Home Teaching program, and watching over and strengthening the Church through teaching and example. Section 20 of the Doctrine and Covenants details the duties of a Teacher: * The teacher’s duty is to watch over the church always, and be with and strengthen them; * And see that there is no iniquity in the church, neither hardness with each other, neither lying, backbiting, nor evil speaking; * And see that the church meet together often, and also see that all the members do their duty. * And he is to take the lead of meetings in the absence of the elder or priest— * And is to be assisted always, in all his duties in the church, by the deacons, if occasion requires. * But neither teachers nor deacons have authority to baptize, administer the sacrament, or lay on hands; * They are, however, to warn, expound, exhort, and teach, and invite all to come unto Christ. * Every elder, priest, teacher, or deacon is to be ordained according to the gifts and callings of God unto him; and he is to be ordained by the power of the Holy Ghost, which is in the one who ordains him (Doctrine and Covenants 20:53-60). Teachers also serve as ushers in meetings and conferences, assist the bishopric, and participate in seminary, where available. A teacher cannot bestow the priesthood upon another person. A Quorum of Teachers is presided over by a president taken from within the quorum, assisted by two counselors and generally, since the quorum consists of 14 to 16 year olds, assisted by an adult leader. The president of Teachers Quorum is to preside over 24 Teachers. If there are more than that number, and another quorum should be organized.

Series four introduced new characters Damien, Ben and Ewan, with plotlines about Bob marrying a mail order bride and Penny having an affair with a pupil. This series was less successful than the previous three and the show was not recommissioned. Teachers included elements of the surreal; the canteen staff is entirely made up of dwarfs, wild animals wander in the background of shots, and rather than an onscreen caption the days of the week are displayed as if painted on walls, the road, lollipop ladies' signs... The first three series were nominated for six BAFTA awards. An unsuccessful and short-lived American remake aired in 2006. * A Date with Rosie Palms - Kurt. A lot. * Alien Lunch - Whilst pregnant Carol picks up a few strange eating habits. * Apathetic Teacher - Pretty much all of them, to some degree. * Butt Monkey - Bob. * Camp Gay - John Simon during Gay and Lesbian Awareness week. * Chuck Cunningham Syndrome - Between series 2 and 3 Susan, Jenny & JP all disappear. * Cluster F-Bomb - The entire series, but particular mention must go to Bob's very first line in the first episode. * Country Matters - In the first episode you can briefly see a caretaker trying to wipe off some markerpen changes made to a sign bearing the name of the headteacher, Mrs C. Hunter. * Dropped a Bridge on Him - Kurt, Brian and Matt are not only killed offscreen, the first episode of series 4 has Lindsay and Penny pissing on their graves. * Every Episode Ending: The ending theme playing up over the teachers in the pub, as their conversation trails away into playing silly pranks on each other. * Flanderization - Bob starts off merely dull but not completely unlikeable. * The Good Old British Comp * Happily Married - Averted. With, erm, every married couple on the show... * Hey, It's That Guy!! - James Corden from Gavin and Stacey appears as a student in the first series. Matt Horne, also from Gavin and Stacey shows up in series 4 as the RE teacher. Ashley Madekwe from Secret Diary Of A Call Girl. Kara Tointon who plays Dawn in Eastenders James Buckley who plays Jay in The Inbetweeners * Heterosexual Life Partners - Kurt and Brian. And they frequently verge into... * Ho Yay - Kurt and Brian worry in a few episodes that they might be gay for each other. An episode revolves around them first realising that everyone sees them as a married couple and then temporarily 'divorcing' - although it's played for comedy, they're both genuinely devastated at breaking up. Brian also spends an episode struggling with a crush on JP. * Hippie Teacher - Lindsay, briefly, after giving up alcohol. She snaps out of it. * The Ladette - Lindsay * Little People Are Surreal: The canteen staff - and only the canteen staff - are all dwarfs. No-one ever remarks on this. * Mistaken for Gay - Brian somehow manages to mistake himself for gay. * My Local - The Plumber's Arms * Put on a Bus - Simon leaves in series 2, and returns for a few episodes in series 3. * Psychologist Teacher - Susan, though she handles all her colleagues' problems as well as the kids'. * Real Song Theme Tune: Belle and Sebastian's "The Boy With The Arab Strap". And very Ear Wormy it is too. * Smoking Hot Sex * Stern Teacher - Jenny. * Teens Are Monsters - There's always a ridiculous amount of bullying and violence in the background of almost every playground, and many corridor scenes. The teachers generally appear completely oblivious to it. * Vomit Discretion Shot - "I think I'm gonna throw up..." "Wait! Throw up over the side, it'll be more fun!" * Vomit Indescretion Shot - After Kayla kisses Grint * Wacky Cravings - Carol starts eating pens. * Will They or Won't They? - Simon and Jenny.

What Teachers actually are is arguable. Although appearing as regular adults, they were given somewhat of a spiritual essence in UmJammer Lammy. In PaRappa The Rapper they appear as grown-ups of a certain profession that is relevant to what Parappa needs. * Parappa wants to be tougher, so Chop Chop Master Onion learns him karate. * Parappa wants a license, so Instructor Mooselini teaches him how to drive. * Parappa needs money, so Prince Fleaswallow gives him a job to earn money. * Parappa needs a cake, so Cheap Cheap teaches him how to bake one. * In stage 5, they function as an obstacle and do not have a desire to help you. * In the final stage, they give back to all your efforts, and hold a party in your name. You still have to rap correctly, but the atmosphere is more aimed at having fun. File:UJL Teachers Totem.png In Um Jammer Lammy her teachers are vague in intentions, and the teachers of the previous game have become something demigod-like. CCMO, Mooselini, Fleaswallow and CCCC appear in an imagination within a dream of Lammy when she tries to think up an excuse for arriving late. She meets CCMO on stage, where he trains her, predicts her future and leaves her with a mantra that would trigger her into regaining confidence. Before every stage, she is triggered by the word "casino" and remembers his words. Having been present through the entire game, he supposedly appears in flesh at Lammy's gig, but no mention of this fact is made. Due to the Stage 1 being Lammy's dream, it was not playable for Parappa in the game. It was however available in UmJammer Lammy NOW!. CCMO remembers Parappa, speaking with affection when he voices he's proud of him and Parappa (painfully naive) asks how CCMO has been.
