  • The USS Hannibal (NCC-74389) was an Ambassador Class ship in service during the 24th century. The ship was named after the Carthaginian General Hannible who led elephants over the Alps to attack Rome, and was commissioned by Starfleet for an extended survey of the Gamma Quadrant. In 2370, the Hannibal was being built at the New Okona Shipyards in the Bajor system as one of the first building contracts taken since the end of the Cardassian Occupation. Starfleet sent a shipment of antimatter to Bajor, but the shipment was hijacked by terrorists. Commander Sisko, Lt. Dax, and Constable Odo retrieved the antimatter, and the ship was launched on her shakedown cruise soon afterwards.
