  • The Dark leader of the Empire, the Emperor Palpatine is perhaps the most powerful Dark Side adept since the Golden Age of the Sith.
  • Emperor Palpatine (portrayed by Ian McDiarmid) is the primary antagonist of the Star Wars Saga, having appeared in five of the films as the main villain. He was first introduced in Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back, and has since appeared in all subsequent Star Wars films. Palpatine has been the subject of rumors suggesting that he will appear as a ghost in Star Wars Episode VII, possibly communing with the main villain of the sequel trilogy. Chronologically, Palpatine is introduced as the Senator of Naboo, and secretly Darth Sidious, the Dark Lord of the Sith. He manipulates the Trade Federation in its occupation of Naboo, allowing for his election as Supreme Chancellor of the Galactic Republic. Over the next ten years, he manipulates the Confederacy of Independent Systems, a group of separatists, into sparking the Clone Wars between the Confederacy and the Republic. Using his wartime emergency powers, Palpatine reforms the Republic into the Galactic Empire and tasks Anakin Skywalker, who had become Darth Vader, into eliminating the Jedi Order. Palpatine spends the next few decades consolidating his rule over the galaxy. During the Battle of Endor, the Emperor attempts to manipulate Luke Skywalker, Vader's son, into killing Vader and becoming Palpatine's new apprentice, and eventually tries to kill Skywalker when he doesn't. Vader, however, sacrifices himself to save his son, killing Palpatine in the process.
  • Palpatine is the evil ruler of Starwarsland who performs acrobatics with his eyes. He enjoys slaying small, furry animals, joyriding in his uncle's airspeeder, and bathing in formaldehyde. Palpatine has often been called "Father of Palpatine's Son," but the reason for this is unknown. Palpatine was born on the Death Star in May of 1892 to a destitute grey-skinned family. He was originally named King Palpatine but changed his name to Emperor Palpatine at the age of 3 because it "sounded cooler." When Luke Skywalker killed his family, Palpatine vowed revenge and spent the rest of his life attempting to find and kill him, becoming the ruler of Starwarsland in the process. Palpatine accomplished this in 1891 before succumbing to tuberculosis. He was remembered after his death as "scarred and deformed," and was consequently knighted and crowned Roman Emperor posthumously.

  • Emperor Palpatine, also known as Darth Sidious, is the feared master of the merciless Darth Vader and a follower of the Dark Side of the Force, being a Sith Master. Much hate rages inside him, which only makes him stronger, even more than the Jedi.

Palpatine tells Darth Vader "Something, something, something, dark side; something, something, something, complete!" The first portion of the quote became the title for the Blue Harvest sequel. He is also seen in "Tales of a Third Grade Nothing," at the Quahog Cabana Club as the only audience member when Frank Sinatra, Jr. and Brian become the new owners. He requests they play "On the Dark Side". For Family Guy's parodies of the original movies, Something, Something, Something, Dark Side and It's A Trap!, Palpatine is played by Carter Pewterschmidt, and acquires many of his mannerisms. Carter acquires many of Palpatine's powers, including Force Lightning. Death was originally slated to play the character in the specials, but was replaced with Pewterschmidt, as revealed in Dark Side's Fact-Ups special feature. At the stop smoking clinic in "Secondhand Spoke", Peter wonders why all of the patients look like Emperor Palpatine. In all appearances not played by Pewterschmidt, Palpatine was voiced by Chris Sheridan.

He was an immensely powerful Sith Master who was also Darth Plagueis's former apprentice and the founder of the Galactic Empire. Darth Sidious also serves as one of two main (and most recurring) antagonists of the 2008 series Star Wars: The Clone Wars (set between the events of and ) for appearing in many episodes of all 6 seasons as an evil embodiment, although his appearances are only seen sometimes and as holograms in the first seasons of the series. A dark soul, a power hungry Dark Lord of the Sith and evil incarnate, Sidious plans to overthrow the Jedi by manipulating many of the events of the Clone Wars to bring himself to rule the whole galaxy. He is easily one of the most successful villains, as he managed to rule the galaxy, and had been unstoppable for years until his apprentice Darth Vader defeated him. He was most famously portrayed in the movies by . In Star Wars: The Clone Wars, he was voiced by the late and later .

Ultimately, however, Palpatine underestimated Darth Vader’s inherent goodness: Upon seeing Luke in agony, the Dark Lord intervened and hurled Palpatine into the Death Star’s reactor core, where the villain perished. Palpatine ruled the galaxy for over 40 years, first rising to the position of Senate President before taking the title of Emperor. In both roles, Palpatine promoted the doctrines of hatred, racism, and tyranny. He eliminated all opposition in violent fashion, forcing senators such as Mon Mothma and Garm Bel Iblis to disappear into hiding. As Emperor, he used Darth Vader as his enforcer and hounded the Jedi Knights, slaughtering the last of this noble sect to ensure that he would never be challenged. Meanwhile, he launched a massive military buildup and began constructing incredibly destructive starships, space stations, and weapons. During this dark time, hundreds of worlds were enslaved or ravaged, dissidents were murdered, and entire industries were nationalized. Shortly before the Battle of Yavin, the Emperor, whose ascension had been made possible by corruption and apathy throughout the Old Republic, abolished the Imperial Senate. With this deed done, there was little to stand in Palpatine’s path toward ultimate power. Palpatine’s numerous plots and schemes resulted in the construction of the Death Star, which was used to vaporize the peaceful world of Alderaan. When this massive space station was itself destroyed by the Rebellion, the Emperor charged Darth Vader with crushing the Alliance. The diabolical pair soon discovered the existence of Vader’s son, Luke Skywalker, and agreed to convert him to the dark side. Neither man accurately gauged Luke’s willpower, however, and the young Jedi struggled valiantly against their attempts to lead him down a path of evil. Frustrated by this failure, the Emperor opted to murder Luke aboard the second, larger Death Star. Content that he had Vader under his complete control, the Emperor turned his back on the Dark Lord of the Sith as he tormented Luke with painful blue Force Lightning. But Vader was rescued from the depths of the dark side by his son’s pleas. Despite his crippling injuries, Vader hoisted the Emperor above his head and threw the despot into the Death Star’s power core. Minutes later, the Rebel fleet obliterated the space station.
