In 1778 his ship was the first European ship to visit the Hawaiian Islands which he named the Sandwich Islands. Cook returned to Hawaii a year later, stayed for a month, and then attempted to leave but was forced to return when his ship, the HMS Resolution, was damaged. Soon after his return, Cook was killed by native islanders. Some scholar's believe that Cook arrived in Hawaii at a time when the indigenous people were celebrating an annual ritual commemorating the arrival of a conquering god from overseas. The Hawaiians incorporated him smoothly into the role of the deity and treated his crew well for the duration, then sending him on his way. But when Cook's crew returned, the ritual was over and it upset the balance of things for the god to return at that time. So the Hawaiians killed him. In 2380, the USS Titan witnessed an alliance led by the Pa'haquel attempting to save the Shalra from destruction by a harvester. The Shalra were a pre-warp society that had little scientific knowledge and did not know of the existence of life on other worlds. This caused Deanna Troi to worry that the alliance could use the fact that they were perceived as gods to dominate the Shalra, but the Rianconi Oderi noted that societies get upset when gods do not behave as they are expected to and they are typically overthrown as false gods. This caused Troi to reflect on what happened to Captain Cook in Hawaii as well as what almost happened to James T. Kirk on Miramanee's World. He saw action in the Seven Years' War, and subsequently surveyed and mapped much of the entrance to the Saint Lawrence River during the siege of Quebec. This helped bring Cook to the attention of the Admiralty and Royal Society. This notice came at a crucial moment in both Cook's career and the direction of British overseas exploration, and led to his commission in 1766 as commander of HM Bark Endeavour for the first of three Pacific voyages. In three voyages Cook sailed thousands of miles across largely uncharted areas of the globe. He mapped lands from New Zealand to Hawaii in the Pacific Ocean in greater detail and on a scale not previously achieved. As he progressed on his voyages of discovery he surveyed and named features, and recorded islands and coastlines on European maps for the first time. He displayed a combination of seamanship, superior surveying and cartographic skills, physical courage and an ability to lead men in adverse conditions. Cook was attacked and killed in a confrontation with Hawaiians during his third exploratory voyage in the Pacific in 1779. He left a legacy of scientific and geographical knowledge which was to influence his successors well into the 20th century, and numerous memorials worldwide have been dedicated to him.

Aside from discovering many new nations and constantly getting into shit with the cannibals and the natives, James' maritime legend lives on, boring the hell out of stupefied history students who couldn't give a shit about our "national pride" and that we should be thankful for what he did. James Cook, strangely, never had a wife or got laid, and many claim this is because he loved sailing more. He also kept a tortoise, which he later donated to the first Sydney Zoo. The tortoise moved slowly into politics under the name of Billy Hughes and became Prime Minister of Australia during the First World War.
