Mycoses usually form on the skin or lungs, but can appear anywhere in the body. They are classified as: * Superficial, appearing only on the outer layer of skin. * Cutaneous, which penetrate deeper into the skin. * Subcutaneous, which can penetrate tissues below the skin, including muscle * Systemic, where mycoses can form throughout the body Mycoses on the lung are particularly dangerous as they often tend to become systemic, although they will not necessarily do so. In Out of the Chute, the patient developed a mycosis on his aorta due to the use of antibiotics to fight off his bartonella infection. It developed into an aneurysm that threatened the patient's life.
