| abstract | - Mycosis is localized inflammation caused by the colonization of a fungal infection. They usually occur in three types of patients:
* Individuals who take strong antibiotics for lengthy periods of time, as the healthy bacteria that fight fungal infection are destroyed along with the harmful ones.
* People who are immunosuppresed.
* People who are infected with HIV or have developed AIDS.
* Individuals who are on high doses of steroids.
* Patients on chemotherapy.
* People suffering from diabetes mellitus. Mycoses usually form on the skin or lungs, but can appear anywhere in the body. They are classified as:
* Superficial, appearing only on the outer layer of skin.
* Cutaneous, which penetrate deeper into the skin.
* Subcutaneous, which can penetrate tissues below the skin, including muscle
* Systemic, where mycoses can form throughout the body Mycoses on the lung are particularly dangerous as they often tend to become systemic, although they will not necessarily do so. In Out of the Chute, the patient developed a mycosis on his aorta due to the use of antibiotics to fight off his bartonella infection. It developed into an aneurysm that threatened the patient's life.
