  • A large amount of information on the Eldar species comes from the book "On the Species: Eldar" Prepared by Professor Askor Vinctun, University of Ogriand. Information contained in the book has been confirmed by Muir forces and the Eldar themselves.
  • Eldar is an overdeveloped planet from the Eldar System and homeplanet to Eldarians. Being an overdeveloped society, Eldarians possess a great talent in the scientific and artistic sectors, as well as knowledge on Symbology, but it is not comparable to the contemporary Symbological culture, as of S.D. 12, of other planets, such as Roak and Lemuris. There also is a great military force in place in the home planet. Eldar's culture is very old, and it has developed faster-than-light travel centuries before its contact with Earth around the 2080's.

Few in number, they are an army of excellence, utilizing highly advanced technology and powerful psykers to defeat their foes. The Inquisition knows of two eldar craftworld sightings in the Segmentum Obscurum and strongly suspects that the Eldar have a special connection to this part of the galaxy. It is also suspected that the Eldar have more than once mingled in the affairs of Men and in the machinations of the Inquisition especially. Some Inquisitors go even as far as to accuse certain factions in the Inquisition to have regular contact to this xenos race.

When the Chaos Wars ended another group of the Eldar went into self-imposed exile underneath the polar ice of Kelewan and establised an outpost called Elvardein to guard against the day that the Valheru returned. Pug found mention of them in the library of the Assembly merely as Those who Watch. Following this discovery he traveled to the polar region mentioned and discovered their Elvardein. It was there he was taught the art of spellweaving by the Eldar, whose leader was Acaila. When the Valheru were defeated at Sethanon the Eldar returned to Elvandar from their self-imposed exile.

Those were not destroyed by the Halo Array, as they hide themselves into the Forerunners' shield worlds. Even in such straits, however, they are still a deadly and influential force in the galaxy. Once, over ten thousand years past, the Eldar were the second most powerful race in existence, dominating a significant portion of the galaxy and secure in their prosperity. Although there were other intelligent races who possessed advanced technology and potent military power in the galaxy, none were in a position to seriously threaten the state of the Eldar empire other than the Forerunners.

In current times the Eldar are guardians that are rarely seen and unlike common belief, does not oppose mankind and other xeno forces openly, but they would gladely sacrifise the entire universe to save themselves, and keep the universe itself safe from the Necrons.

Three subgroups were spawned soon after this: the Eldar pirates, Exodites and Harlequins. Pirates are outlaws, much like 16th century pirates, who prey on the helpless, but retain the vicious hatred for the opposite kind of Eldar. Exodites are Eldar who haved returned to planet life instead of craftworld life. This has forced them to live in primitive ways. The Harlequins are followers of Cegorach who go between the Eldar and Dark Eldar, putting on plays of the Eldar's history. They are some of the most dangerous warriors in both the Eldar and Dark Eldar forces.

The island consists almost exclusively from forests and the south part of pasture land. In the forest are very high and old trees and in between the normal deciduous trees. Many rivers rise on this island which flow into the sea. The southern part where the forest ends, starts a huge willow landscape on which runs to the south coast, there where the famous snow coast begins, as this is covered with limestone. To the west of the small island close to the edge of the forest, there is a harbor where ships can transport the residents to Firun. The realm of elves begins on the edge of the forest where the Pastureland begins. Their living areas lie in the tall trees of Eldar where they have perfect vision and surveillance on the pastures as well as the forest. Even at the port there is a settlement.

Those few, however, are among the most dangerous enemies of Man. Following specialized paths of rigorous training throughout their long lives, the surviving Eldar are masters of terrible psychic powers, deadly warrior skills, and incredibly sophisticated technology. Skilled in foretelling the future and manipulating lesser races, the Eldar would gladly sacrifice billions of humans to save a handful of their own.

The Farseers of the Eldar can live for several thousand years. Eldar are mentally far superior to humans, and feel all emotions much more strongly, requiring the Eldar to exercise constant restraint to avoid mental break down. Eldar seem to reproduce in stages, with new genetic material being added by the father to the developing embryo over an extended period. This process is ill-understood, but Eldar autopsies are suggestive of it.
