  • The Gettysburg Address was a famous speech by U.S. President Abraham Lincoln during the American Civil War on Thursday, November 19, 1863, in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. One of the most famous quotes from the speech was the iconic opening line: "Four score and seven years ago, our father's brought forth...", which was a reference to the signing of the United States Declaration of Independence during the beginning of the Revolutionary War in 1776. Marvin and Wendy once watched a televised reenactment of the Gettysburg Address on Marvin's G.E.E.C. TV.
  • Following the day's featured two-hour speech by Edward Everett, Lincoln spoke for just over two minutes. The speech reiterated the principles of human equality espoused by the Declaration of Independence and proclaimed the Civil War as a struggle for the preservation of the Union sundered by the secession crisis, with "a new birth of freedom" that would bring true equality to all of its citizens.[8] Lincoln also redefined the Civil War as a struggle not just for the Union, but also for the principle of human equality. Lincoln concluded with a wish that "government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth."
  • During Day 2, CNB journalist Ron Wieland claimed on the news that he had found evidence of an imminent terrorist attack and then had been held against his will in the Northwest Regional Operations Complex for several hours. President David Palmer was forced to issue a statement around 5:00 pm confirming the threat but promising that the matter was under control. After it was over, Palmer commented to Mike Novick that it was hardly the Gettysburg Address, but would tide over the press for the time being. ("Day 2: 5:00pm-6:00pm")
  • The Fifth Doctor's companion Peri Brown later expressed an interest in seeing Lincoln deliver the address first-hand. (AUDIO: The Roof of the World)
