  • Curt Gallenkamp (17 February 1890 – 13 April 1958) was a highly decorated General der Artillerie in the Wehrmacht during World War II. He was also a recipient of the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross. The Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross was awarded to recognise extreme battlefield bravery or successful military leadership. Curt Gallenkamp was captured by British troops in May 1945. He was tried for war crimes for the deaths of British paratroops/commandos and an American pilot. He was sentenced to be hanged in 1947, but had his sentence commuted to life imprisonment and was released in 1952.
