abstract | - Antares-class freighters were a type of starship used by several races during the 24th century, most notably the Bajorans, Cardassians, and Corvallens. These vessels commonly served as cargo ships or transports. (TNG: "Ensign Ro", "Face of the Enemy", DS9: "Life Support", "Rules of Engagement") In the early 2360s, Brian Mallory served as an engineer's mate aboard the SS Persephone, an an Antares-class freighter. (Kal-Dixas Spaceport) Vessels of this class were armed and used for planetary defense by the Bajoran Provisional Government following the Cardassian Withdrawal. (DS9: "Shadows and Symbols") This class was named after the ill-fated starship from "Charlie X". The Corvallen-used version was a different, but similar, model from the Bajoran/Cardassian variety. It seems unlikely that the Federation would use the same designation for two vastly different starship types, so it might be assumed that the Corvallen freighter is a variant of the Antares-class.
