abstract
  • The Strike-class cruiser was a medium cruiser designed by the Loronar Corporation during the Galactic Civil War for the Imperial Navy as a general-purpose vessel capable of modular modifications to allow it to fit many missions profiles, yet cheap enough to be produced in large quantities. A departure from the Navy's trend towards increasingly large warships, the Strike-class cruiser was an admission to diminished ability to defend space superiority against the Rebel Alliance and other "rogue" forces as the conflict wore on. While closer to a frigate in size, the 450-meter long Strike-class was capable of challenging larger Alliance cruisers with its surprisingly heavy load of firepower, strong shields and high sublight speed. The Order of Battle considered two Strike-class cruisers the equivalent of one Victory-class Star Destroyer. In addition, the interior storage space of the Strike-class could be modified for different missions. The most common sets were designed for planetary garrison, space superiority, and planetary assault. Planetary garrison loadouts included an assault company, two AT-STs, one AT-AT and several support speeders; space superiority included three squadrons of fighters; the planetary assault loadout included five AT-ATs. Ironically, the one big disadvantage of the Strike-class cruiser was a side-effect of it's biggest advantage. Due to the modular design of the ship, a single, well-placed hit could shut down entire systems or weapon batteries if the densely arrayed power connectors between two sections of the ship are damaged. If the ship suffers too many critical hits by large-impact weapons (such as proton torpedos or heavy turbolasers), it was also possible that it might simply break apart, losing large portions of its structure. By the time the ship was introduced into full naval service this was only considered to be a minor flaw, as the Empire had enough resources to replenish damaged or lost components which were considered "disposable" at that point of time. However, as the war raged on and large starships started to become valued commodities, the Imperial Navy felt the need to make this otherwise reliable, versatile and thus tactically important class of cruisers more durable, which resulted in reinforcing the connections between the cruiser's basic integral structure and the attached modules in order to prevent easy break-off's. Still, these spots remain the most vulnerable parts of the Strike-class, and pilots and commanders alike on both sides of the Galactic Civil War have adapted their tactics to deal with this knowledge.
  • The Strike-class Medium Cruiser, better known simply as the Strike Cruiser, has been called the Empire's best kept secret and is unique by its modular design. To many the Strike Cruiser's combat capabilities come as quite the surprise. It was designed to be mass produced in a limited amount of time due to the prefabricated component sections. This reduces construction time and it also dramatically lowers the cost of each vessel. It was a triumph of Imperial modular technology. Built around a central skeleton that bound the bridge to the engines, their other components are completely modular. The Strike Cruiser maintains 258 compartments, two of which are brigs. The interiors of the prefabricated sections can be easily modified for specific missions such as troop transport, planetary assault, prefabricated garrison base deployers or carrying a full squadron of starfighters after a short stay at a spaceyard. Therefore allowing the Empire to change the mission profile of the vessel without the need to build entire new classes of ships to fill needed roles. The weakness of this vessel is that entire systems or weapon batteries can be knock out by well placed shots as the modular connections fail. Or in combat, if the parts of the Strike Cruiser's internal structure are destroyed the vessel will break itself apart. At the time of the Strike Cruiser's design, the warship's weakness was considered only a minor flaw. These ships are tough, versatile and well armed. The shields are very capable and the ship is often deployed in large numbers. These ships were in service before the Battle of Yavin. Hoersch-Kessel Drive recently received permission from Loronar Defense Industries to produce this very capable cruiser.
  • The Strike-class medium cruiser was a medium star cruiser designed by the Loronar Corporation during the Galactic Civil War for the Imperial Navy as a general-purpose vessel capable of modular modifications to allow it to fit many mission profiles, yet cheap enough to be produced in large quantities.
  • At 450 meters long, the Strike cruiser was rather related to frigates. Despite its small stature, it was in fact one of the "backbone" ships of the second sector, serving as a light assault ship. It was highly modular to fit virtually any mission duty; almost all fleets in the second sector possessed at least one Strike cruiser. Due to its highly modular design, it was easily customizeable to fit any mission profile. The modularity, however, was its weakness, as critical electical systems were forced to be near the surface due to the large empty internal spaces. Astragon rectified this problem after discovering it in an ill-fated battle, boosting the armor to the level that Star Destroyers enjoy, as well as giving it stronger shields. Even with these advancements, it was still able to be destroyed by any ship of a kilometer or more with ease, so the ships were usually well-defended. The Strike cruisers' armament was more than the average for a ship of such size. Its existing weapons were upgraded by Astragon—the Astragonian variants were armed with twenty heavy turbolaser cannons transplanted from a Carrack-class cruiser, ten turbolaser batteries from an Enforcer-class picket cruiser, ten ion cannons from a Carrack, and ten tractor beam projectors from an Emancipator-class Star Destroyer. This armament enabled it to tackle ships about 600 meters in size by themselves. When attacking larger vessels, Strike Cruisers were deployed in groups of four. Four common variants existed in the Astragon Navy; Space Superiority, Planetary Garrison, and Planetary Assault. Space Superiority carried three squadrons of starfighters or bombers; often the TIE Interdictor Bomber was assigned to these craft. Planetary Garrison carried one massive assault vehicle like an AT-AHT or A9 Floating Fortress and two AT-ST/A or equivalent-sized vehicles. Planetary Assault loadouts carried five At-AHT-size craft or two A6 Juggernauts.
