abstract
  • D'Artagnan is a young light blue-haired young man. He wears a crimson shirt ontop of a white one. He wears a feathered cap.
  • Charles de Batz-Castelmore, Comte d'Artagnan (1611–1673), more popularly known as D'Artagnan, was a human who lived in France on Earth during the 17th century. He served King Louis XIII and his son Louis XIV as the Captain of the Musketeers, and later died in the Siege of Maastricht, which was part of a war between France and the Netherlands. After the original D'Artagnan's death, a fictionalized account of his life was written by Gatien de Sandras. This account was later used by Alexandre Dumas as a basis for the fictional character of D'Artagnan which appeared in The Three Musketeers and other works by Dumas. In 2266, while suffering from polywater intoxication, Lieutenant Hikaru Sulu became convinced that he was the character D'Artagnan. Sulu roamed the Enterprise with a fencing foil looking for Cardinal Richelieu. (TOS episode: "The Naked Time") As a result of this, Sulu was given the nickname D'Artagnan by Leslie. (TOS - The Janus Gate novel: Present Tense) In 2285, Commander Hikaru Sulu named a confiscated cargo ship the D'Artagnan, most likely after the Comte d'Artagan.(TOS comic: "The D'Artagnan Three")

Dumas would continue the Musketeers adventures in VINGT ANS APRES/ TWENTY YEARS AFTER and LE VICTOME DE BRAGELONNE, OU DIX ANS PLUS TARD/THE VICTOME DE BRAGELONNE or TEN YEARS AFTER, which is also entitled THE MAN IN THE IRON MASK. Many Hollywood adaptations of THE THREE MUSKETEERS have softened D'Artagnan's character, making him more heroic in character (altering some of his romances into more innocent affairs). Recent films have given D'Artagnan a back story where his father had been slain by Rochefort, leading to a reckoning in the climax. Many adaptations of THE MAN IN THE IRON MASK establish D'Artagnan having a close relationship with the title character. D'Artagnan is either portrayed as protector of King Louis XIV (the good or bad twin) or a surrogate father to the hidden good twin brother, always rescuing him from his prison-mask and setting him up as King (sometimes at the cost of his own life). The historical D'Artagnan made a brief appearance in the BBC TV Serial THE FIRST CHURCHILLS (1969), where he historically dies in the Siege of Maastricht in 1673.

When Uhura, who he had attempted to protect from harm escaped, upon seeing Kirk, Sulu exclaimed "Richelieu, at last" and that he fought for "honor, Queen, and France." Then, together, Kirk and Spock restrained and pacified Sulu. Spock then ordered two crewmen to "Take D'Artagnan (Sulu) here to Sickbay." (TOS: "The Naked Time" ) This character was only mentioned in dialogue.
