After several years on the court, he ran for President of the United Federation of Planets, and was successfully elected. At age eight, Jean-Luc Picard took a school trip to the Palais de la Concorde, and had looked forward to meeting President Laikan. Unfortunately, Laikan was vacationing on Alpha Centauri at the time, and the class was instead received by Laikan's Denobulan chief of staff. Laikan died sometime prior to 2380. (ST novel: Articles of the Federation) He is remembered as a great Centauran scientist, Starfleet officer, and politician, and is held up as a role-model for Centauran Starfleet officers.
