- Devaki's brother was king Kansa of Mathura. Kansa became king by imprisoning his father, Ugrasena, and both killed Devaki's first six children, and locked her and Vasudeva in a cell due to a prophecy that Devaki's eighth child would prove his downfall. Devaki's seventh child, Balarama, was transferred by Vishnu to the womb of Rohini, Vasudeva's first wife, and disguised as a miscarriage to Kansa. After Krishna was born, Vasudeva smuggled him out to be raised as a cowherd with Yasoda and Nanda, his foster-parents.

abstract | - Krishna is an enormously benevolent and powerful god, often recognized as Avatar of Vishnu, the Preserver and (according to some) 'Supreme' God. Krishna once gave Xena guidance as to what her rightful path was. He also aided Xena in her battle against Indrajit, although she had to show a little humility and pray for his assistance. When her arms was removed by Indrajit, she called on Krishna's name and by his grace, regenerated her arms and gave her two extra arms. He transformed her into a Goddess that resembles Kali and she beheads Indrajit after a long battle and then resumes her form as Xena again. This article is a stub, or very short article, that is most likely incomplete and needs expansion.

Most commonly within Hinduism, Krishna is worshipped as an avatar of Vishnu, who is considered the Supreme God by the Vaishnava schools. Within Gaudiya Vaishnavism Krishna is worshipped as the source of all other avatars (including Vishnu). Krishna and the stories associated with him appear across a broad spectrum of Hindu philosophical and theological traditions. Though they sometimes differ in details reflecting the concerns of a particular tradition, some core features are shared by all. These include a divine incarnation, a pastoral childhood and youth, and life as a heroic warrior and teacher.

He visits this material world from time to time to free His devotees from material existence and to vanquish the wicked. He performs superhuman pastimes—lifting mountains, swallowing forest fires, and killing numerous extraordinarily powerful demons—as easily as a child playing with toys.
