Concept art of the Fusion Suit in Metroid Prime indicates that the Blades can be retracted and tucked against the arm, allowing Samus to freely move her arm without fear of causing unintentional harm. Samus is never seen fighting with the Blades during her mission on the Biologic Space Laboratories research station; however. If it was intended for gameplay, the game's few controls likely prevented the element from being used.

Blades first appears taking Kyle by surprise and threating to kill him, asking Vito to allow him to deal with him, but as the mob is already with a lot of trouble, Vito orders Blades to just drop him out of Little Italy. Blades tells Kyle he is lucky, but warns him that the next time they met, he will rip his eyes out with an icepick. Later, Blades is seen with Vito in Father Bella's church, where Blades, secretly under Bella's command, kills Vito with a pickaxe. Finding him to be trouble, Kyle decides to deal with Blades and fights against him in the graveyard, apparently killing him. In the battle, Blades moves at high speed and attacking by throwing blades when distant and cutting with them when close. Near the end of the game, Blades is shown to have been mutated with glow into Famine, one of Bella's Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse. Kyle finds him in the church's kitchen, where he is chopping several corpses and kills Sgt. Sims. As Famine, his speed and technique are improved, and he is able to stretch his limbs. He has 2500 HP. Blades would use his firearm to shoot zombies or people who were beyond the range of his knives. During the assault on the mall he survived the initial attack, he almost caught Peter but he escaped into the ventilation shaft, prompting Blades to shout "I See You... Chocolate Man". Blades was presumably killed when Peter shot him with his sniper rifle. The force of Peter's gunshot send Blades over the railings of the upper level where he fell into a fountain on the lower level. Note: Blades may have survived the gunshot and the water from the fountain broke his fall and he crawled to safety, but by doing so one of the zombies that were walking towards him probably infected him with a bite, this would explain how he had zombified relatively intact in Land. If he had just laid where he had fallen, the zombies would have consumed his body. Blades was portrayed by Tom Savini.

However his style of leadership alienated many, with Blaster and Goldbug deserting and Blades was one of many other Autobots who found themselves sympathising. Grimlock sent all the other Autobots to search for Blaster and Goldbug. Blades located a Transformer life signal which led him to London, where he found the Action Force members Airtight, Barbecue, Bazooka, Flint and Scarlett in a sewer with architect Susan Hoffman investigating a metallic monster. Blades was attacked by the Action Force members who then realised the real monster was the Decepticon Megatron who downed Blades with a single blast. Blades made his way to the surface where Megatron fought Action Force, Grimlock and Centurion. Blades rescued the Action Force member Wild Bill when his Dragonfly XH-1 was shot down. Flint ordered an airstrike to destroy Megatron, even though it would also destroy Grimlock, to the horror of Blades and Wild Bill. Then Centurion told Blades his plan. Just before the strike hit Blades airdropped Centurion into the battle then pulled Grimlock free before the airstrike hit. Megatron and Centurion plunged into the Thames ablaze. Blades explained to Action Force that Centurion felt he was just regarded as an "ancient relic" and wanted to redeem himself in an ancient relic's last blaze of glory.
