__NOEDITSECTION__ Douglas Mikhail Mikoyan Vladimirovich Brezhnev Makarov MacArthur. Where would America be without him. Now let us examine the man behind the uniform. Douglas MacArthur (January 26, 1880 - April 5, 1964) was an American general. He served in three wars (World War I, World War II, and the Korean War), played a prominent role in the Pacific Theater of World War II, oversaw the occupation of Japan from 1945-1951, and lead United Nations forces in the defense of South Korea from North Korea until he was relieved by President Harry Truman in 1951, a move that proved controversial for the beleaguered president. General of the Army Douglas MacArthur (26 January 18805 April 1964) was an American general and field marshal of the Philippine Army who was Chief of Staff of the United States Army during the 1930s and played a prominent role in the Pacific theater during World War II. He received the Medal of Honor for his service in the Philippines Campaign, which made him and his father Arthur MacArthur, Jr., the first father and son to be awarded the medal. He was one of only five men ever to rise to the rank of General of the Army in the U.S. Army, and the only man ever to become a field marshal in the Philippine Army. General Douglas MacArthur was the highest ranked member of the US Army and the defacto leader of the United States, succeeding former President Harvey McCullen. He became acting Commander in Chief in June 2nd, 1953 when McCullen and members of his cabinet were shot down by Chimeran fighter aircraft shortly after the fall of the Liberty Defense Perimeter. His leadership of the U.S. Government was intended to be temporary until a time when more formal elections could be held. However, MacArthur was later killed at the Battle of Phoenix. General of the Army Douglas MacArthur, GCB (January 26, 1880 – April 5, 1964) was an American general, United Nations general and Field Marshal of the Philippine Army. He was a Chief of Staff of the United States Army during the 1930s and later played a prominent role in the Pacific theater of World War II. He was a highly decorated US soldier of the war, receiving the Medal of Honor for his early service in the Philippines and on the Bataan Peninsula. He was designated to command the proposed invasion of Japan in November 1945. When that was no longer necessary, he officially accepted the nation's surrender on September 2, 1945. Douglas MacArthur (January 26, 1880 – April 5, 1964) was a Human who lived on Earth during the 19th and 20th centuries. MacArthur played a key commanding officer role in the United States' effort in World War II, one of only a handful of generals to reach the high rank of general of the army. MacArthur was not identified by name, but was implied by both Ross' description and direct quotation. The quote came from remarks made on board USS Missouri on September 2, 1945 after the signing of the surrender of Japan's empire. General Douglas MacArthur was a Human that lived during the mid-20th century who served in the United States Army and participated in Earth's Second World War. He was known for speaking the following words at the conclusion of that costly war: "Today the guns are silent. A great tragedy has ended. We have known the bitterness of defeat and the exultation of triumph, and from both we have learned there can be no turning back. We must go forward to preserve in peace what we've won in war." (SG1: "Avalon, Part 1")kategori:Amerikanerkategori:Generalerkategori:Nämnd endast SG-1 karaktär Douglas MacArthur (n. 26. janero 1880, m. 5. april 1964) ia es un jeneral american. He was known for speaking the words at the conclusion of that costly war: "Today the guns are silent. A great tragedy has ended. We have known the bitterness of defeat and the exultation of triumph, and from both we have learned there can be no turning back. We must go forward to preserve in peace what we've won in war." Four hundred thirty years later, Admiral William Ross quoted these words following the signing of the peace treaty between the Federation Alliance and the Dominion at the conclusion of the Dominion War. (DS9 episode: "What You Leave Behind", DS9 short story: "Requital") MacArthur was not identified by name, but was implied by both Ross' description and direct quotation. The quote came from remarks made on board USS Missouri on September 2, 1945 after the signing of the surrender of Japan's empire. MacArthur also said: "Old soldiers never die; they just fade away". (TOS novel: Mind Meld) Federation starships bearing the name USS MacArthur have been christened in honor of General MacArthur's accomplishments, as has the MacArthur star system. Een beroemde uitspraak van MarArthur is: " Old soldiers never die, they just fade away." General of the Army Douglas MacArthur, GCB (January 26, 1880 – April 5, 1964) was an American general, United Nations general and Field Marshal of the Philippine Army. MacArthur oversaw the Occupation of Japan from 1945 to 1951. Although criticized for protecting Emperor Hirohito and the imperial family from prosecution for war crimes, MacArthur is credited with implementing far-reaching democratic reforms in that country. He led the United Nations Command forces defending South Korea against the North Korean invasion from 1950 to 1951. On April 11, 1951 MacArthur was removed from command by President Harry S. Truman for publicly disagreeing with Truman's Korean War Policy. MacArthur fought in three major wars (World War I, World War II, Korean War) and was one of only five men ever to rise to the rank of General of the Army. We must go forward to preserve in peace what we've won in war." Four hundred thirty years later, Admiral William Ross quoted these words following the signing of the peace treaty between the Federation Alliance and the Dominion at the conclusion of the Dominion War. (DS9: "What You Leave Behind") MacArthur was not identified by name, but was implied by both Ross' description and direct quotation. The quote came from remarks made on board the USS Missouri on September 2, 1945 after the signing of the surrender of the Japanese Empire. Furthermore, according to Ron D. Moore, Sisko's departing speech in "Call to Arms" was conceptually inspired by MacArthur's "I Shall Return" proclamation upon departing the Philippines during World War II. (AOL chat, 1997 ) General of the Army Douglas MacArthur (26 January 18805 April 1964) was an American general and field marshal of the Philippine Army who was Chief of Staff of the United States Army during the 1930s and played a prominent role in the Pacific theater during World War II. Raised in a military family in the American Old West, MacArthur was valedictorian at the West Texas Military Academy, and First Captain at the United States Military Academy at West Point, where he graduated top of the class of 1903. During the 1914 United States occupation of Veracruz, he conducted a reconnaissance mission, for which he was nominated for the Medal of Honor. In 1917, he was promoted from major to colonel and became chief of staff of the 42nd (Rainbow) Division. In the fighting on the Western Front during World War I, he rose to the rank of brigadier general, was again nominated for a Medal of Honor, and was awarded the Distinguished Service Cross twice and the Silver Star seven times. From 1919 to 1922, MacArthur served as Superintendent of the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, where he attempted a series of reforms. His next assignment was in the Philippines, where in 1924 he was instrumental in quelling the Philippine Scout Mutiny. In 1925, he became the Army's youngest major general. He served on the court martial of Brigadier General Billy Mitchell and was president of the American Olympic Committee during the 1928 Summer Olympics in Amsterdam. In 1930, he became Chief of Staff of the United States Army. As such, he was involved in the expulsion of the Bonus Army protesters from Washington, D.C. in 1932, and the establishment and organization of the Civilian Conservation Corps. He retired from the U.S. Army in 1937 to become Military Advisor to the Commonwealth Government of the Philippines. MacArthur was recalled to active duty in 1941 as commander of United States Army Forces in the Far East. A series of disasters followed, starting with the destruction of his air forces on 8 December 1941, and the invasion of the Philippines by the Japanese. MacArthur's forces were soon compelled to withdraw to Bataan, where they held out until May 1942. In March 1942, MacArthur, his family and his staff left nearby Corregidor Island in PT boats and escaped to Australia, where MacArthur became Supreme Commander, Southwest Pacific Area. For his defense of the Philippines, MacArthur was awarded the Medal of Honor. After more than two years of fighting in the Pacific, he fulfilled a promise to return to the Philippines. He officially accepted Japan's surrender on 2 September 1945, and oversaw the occupation of Japan from 1945 to 1951. As the effective ruler of Japan, he oversaw sweeping economic, political and social changes. He led the United Nations Command in the Korean War until he was removed from command by President Harry S. Truman on 11 April 1951. He later became Chairman of the Board of Remington Rand. (DS9: ) General Douglas MacArthur was the highest ranked member of the US Army and the defacto leader of the United States, succeeding former President Harvey McCullen.
